The aarti at the that is overhyped. Barely anything close to enthralling - I enjoyed the aarti at the Haridwar Har ki Paudi a lot more. The Brahmans doing the aarti didn't seem like they were conversing with the lord - which is what an aarti is supposed to be - rather, they were simply playing out a well rehearsed act. Also, the crowds, the mosquitos, the lack of cleanliness - bastion of Hinduism yes, but do not worth it in my view.

If you are travelling to Varanashi, do not miss to visit this place at 7 PM. You can see excellent aarti ceremony here. You can sit on the chairs or steps or pay some bucks and hire a small boat and see from the river. Location doesn't matter as they will be doing on all sides. Mornings you can witness different rituals performed here but its better to visit in the evening.

Dasaswamedh Ghat is famous for its Arti. One needs to get down at Godowlia and walk around one kilometer to reach the Ghat.
There are two places where Aarti is carried out. One with 7 pandits other one is with 5 pandits.
Before the actual Aarti starts - there Air is filled with soothing shlokas and loudspeaker aartis.
The Aarti started at 7:10 PM (in April 2018) - if one were to sit close to Aarti, one needs to reach and occupy a seat around 5:30 PM. Or else one can book chairs as well which probably gives closest and the best view. If one wants to see Aarti by boat one needs to bring the boat 30 minutes before the start of Aarti. Usually Ganga is peaceful here, however if wind blows the waves in Ganga can make boat rocky.

Dashashwamedh ghat is one of the oldest, most spectacular and important ghat, located at the bank of the river Gange near to the old Vishwanath Temple in the Kashi. The literal meaning of the Dashashwamedh is the Ghat (river front) of the ten sacrificed horses (dash means 10, ashwa means horse, medh means sacrifice.
It is great to see the real attraction of this ghat in the evening when Gange aarti is held here. This ghat has become the religious spot for the devotees and pilgrims for years and tourists as well. Historically, it is considered as the most favorite and main ghat among the Hindu devotees. Near to the Dashashwamedh ghat, there are various religious temples as well as tourists’ destinations.
