“Did the job”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2012

Hotel kamal did the job. We stayed for two nights in March 2012. The room was reasonably clean and had a fan and TV. Their was AC but it wasn't working (but it wasn't too hot so we weren't that bothered). The staff seemed very nice and were welcoming and willing to help. The location is superb and the roof top terrace COULD be the best in the area, but the restaurant was barely open and you have to go down to reception (4 flights of stairs) to order something from the limited menu. The lack of shade of the roof terrace is also a pain.

A warning for anyone staying in Agra, the area surrounding the Taj Mahal is a total dump. You only really need one day in Agra as everything can be done in that amount of time.

Great basic hotel near the south gate of Taj Mahal (walking distance to all gates). Room was very updated. Nice view from rooftop terrace (restaurant is downstairs).

Nice view from one spot on the rooftop. Location just on the southgate of the Taj. Walk to the westgate for early entree is 10 minutes. All (or almost all) hotels and b&b is this whole area have rates between terrible and good. So what can you expect in any hotel or b&b ??? Also Kamel. it has a lot of different ratings. I think the most hotels and b&b ask to much for there rooms but they can ask it because we want to pay it for the location. Kamel ask 650 for a double room. Very basis. It have: 1 double bed and a small bathroom nothing more.
Deluxe rooms are more spacious with some old furniture and tv (only hindi programms !? ) and bigger bathroom. Rhey ask without ac 1150 rs and with cooler 1950 rs. A big :) . Extra bed cost you 200 rs. I took the deluxe with extra bed and after a talk it was ok for 1150 rs. Way to much but i need something. Well without airco this is a problem beause the room are on the top floor and in daytime this becomes an oven. There was a fan in the room but it did not worked that well. The rooms are clean (for india). The bedshets in the normal rooms are not that clean. In the deluxe rooms it was ok. Not to much noise from the street in the rooms. We just order some dinks and 1 time breakfast. Other times we eat elsewhere. Staff is friendly and willing to do something extra for you. Reception can give you some advice. Nothing wrong with that. Rooms have to be paid in front. It is not a bad option but take a room on 1 st floor (with ac in april to oktober). There are always tourist here so the most hotels and b&b forget there basics and the needs of the customers.

Room Tip: not on top floor without an ac in warm season

The ONLY bright spot is that, it is very near to the Taj! You even see the Taj from the Rooftop. Otherwise, you have very little to choose from, noisy, not-so-great food, room service not good.... However, they've some new rooms at ground floor, quite ok, but u'll have to spend a fortune to stay there. Overall, ok for one night stay..

Firstly, don't have too high expectations towards Taj Ganj (and Agra in general) - it is quite clear that the only reason people stay there overnight is to be close to the Taj, which matters especially, if you want to visit it at sunrise. Rooms were indeed small and rather dirty. On the other hand, we were actually positively surprised by friendly staff and ok food provided in this hotel. Overally, I haven't really checked out other hotels in this area, but I would assume that standard is comparable and just bearable for one night.
