Arrived at 5.30 a.m. and were immediately given a room to catch a few hours sleep until our own room was ready - no charge. We were then upgraded to a room with a view of the lake with a balcony - no charge. Easy walk into town or a quick tuk-tuk ride, they are always outside waiting. Lovely pool with loungers. Breakfast is good and is expertly and delightfully managed by the super-efficient Mohan, who is a star.

Room tip: Lake view with balcony

Staff were very helpful. Room was for single and smallish on ground floor. Very clean and bathroom had good amenities but no hair dryer. Did not have a window with view but small private balcony was useful for drying washing. Cheap and good laundry service available plus a spa which provided facials/massages. Greeted with cold drink, magnolia garland and bags taken to rooms. Decor in public areas rather gorgeous and more than adequate range of food for breakfast. There was little water pressure in shower but water was hot. An ancient TV in room and free Wifi. Owner also owns the hotel used in the movie about Magnolia Hotel and he was very charming and interesting. Hotel well located. A small tip..ground floor a little noisy as staff arrived for duty each morning.

Room was pretty spacious and on top floor. It was comfortable with all amenities, although one had to climb a couple of steps to go to the bathroom. The breakfast spread was average but sitting near the window overlooking the pool side was great !

Room tip: Next to pool side...or away from staircase or restaurant

We were on a 10 day trip to rajasthan which ended on a bad note.

Firstly they messed up with the booking and said no reservation. We had booked all hotels upfront and only encountered an issue here. They finally gave us a choice of 3 bad rooms of which we chose 2 since we had travelled for 7 hours and in no mood to look for another hotel.

After multiple requests torn blankets were given.

Coffee kettle had a dead cockroach inside. While arguing with the head in charge the guy had no explanation and even came up with a statement "we gave you better rooms than what you have paid for".

The rooms have the old locked house smell. The bathrooms are awaiting a desperate upgrade. Breakfast options are limited.

That was our last time at this hotel. Wish there was an option to provide no stars.

Not far from the centre of Udaipiur and with a view over the lake (not the bit of the lake with the Lake Palace on it but good for watching the sun rise) Swaroop Vilas is a lovely hotel with excellent spacious rooms (ours with a balcony overlooking the lake). The rooftop bar is great for chilling and enjoying the view and it has a swimming pool up there too- a nice pool but rather exposed to the tables in the restaurant and a certain grubbiness about the loungers - someone not doing a good cleaning job.
There was something about the restaurant - a rather impersonal space - that discouraged us from trying dinner, though breakfast was up to par.
Some lovely public spaces around the lobby and friendly, helpful staff.
All the tuk-tuk drivers knew where it was, which helps!
