Of the three Oberoi properties we stayed in India (the other two being the Amarvilas & Wildflower Shimla), this is definitely in the lead by a wide margin. The location, architecture, ambiance, and service simply came together to give us a very magical experience. On arrival at the airport, we were picked up by the property's BMW 7-series, making for a very pleasant, luxurious 45-minute drive through Udaipur before arriving at the resort. Udaipur is a very charming place, less hectic than the bigger Indian destinations and definitely much tidier. If there's one place in India I'd like to revisit, it would be Udaipur.
The staff are very personable. Go for the room with semi-private pool. Request for the room directly facing the Lake Palace hotel if available. The best view of the lake would have to be at the spa pool. The wildlife sanctuary at the back part of the resort was a pleasant surprise.
As with the other Oberoi properties, the food was a little letdown. It's not bad, just completely ordinary especially for the high prices. Try the roofdeck restaurant at the hotel just outside of the Udaivilas gate. Nice views too and much more reasonable price.More
