“Be fit or do not stay here”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is an architecturally magnificent hotel where no expense was spared in its construction from an old palace. Our Renaissance room had a wonderful view and was well appointed. The included breakfast was rather average when compare to other hotels of this caliber. That said, getting around the facility is at best challenging and at worst, dangerous. Staircases end abruptly, with no railing, to a drop-off then do a 90 degree turn to left or right again with no railing. There was a warning posted in our room regarding this "design". The very old and very young should not stay. Nevertheless Fateh Garh serves as a welcome respite from the rigors of touring Udaipur.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the lakes are best.

Thank you for the review and for bringing the point of stairs to our notice. We would like to share with fellow travellers that we have a drive way which can take a car uptill the terrace from where a guest can take a elevator to the different parts of the hotel. This can make the stay almost step free.

fateg garh has a stunning roof top pool and restuarant. The food was great and the service was fabulous. The rooms are decorated nicely.. The manager at the reception was very helpful with arranging a booking for us at the Jagmandir Palace
The internet didn't work the whole day we were there and only works in the reception area when it does which is not that convinient.

Thank you the comments, wanted to inform you that we have put a few more wifi routers around the building and now have the majority of the rooms and public area under wifi. Thank you for the bringing the issue to our notice, we have been working on it for a while and the issue has been rectified now.

One word sums this hotel up - Wow. It starts by having two Indian women sing to you as you walk up a red carpet while they throw petals in your path - wow, indeed. Enjoy the photos, the hotel is out in the countryside so it is quiet and has tremendous views of Udaipur and the surrounding countryside.

We sat on the upper terrace and watched the insane amount of fireworks in the town. It is Dawali and the Indians love to set off fireworks to celebrate the holiday. I guessed that there were at least 10 to 20 explosions per second and this went on for about five hours! Thank goodness we are away from the centre and up high so the noise would not drive us up the wall. We both ordered thalis and eat them watching more fireworks. The food was off the charts. We had praised the food as the best we had in India and then they sent the chief out to receive our compliments. Terrific food matched by great service. A large bowl of Mulligatawnay soup, five curries, yogurt, rice, salad, three types of Indian bread and two deserts rounded this off. Impossible to finish the food. This one cost 800 rupees or about $17 each, getting into Canadian prices but oh so good.

Waking up this morning I ventured out to our veranda and was amazed to hear fireworks still going off!

This is a hotel of extreme comfort and wonderful service. I am sure all would enjoy a stay in this beautiful place.

Fateh Garh was for three nights our hotel during a 15 days trip through India. Definitively the location is nice on the hills overlooking the lakes of Udaipur. Nicely built as a castle with huge rooms. The first impression is very good, but the during the stay the cracks appear. First, be careful with what you eat. Together with another couple I got stomach problems and our driver told us that this is not the first time in this hotel. Other minus: if you want internet, you have to go to the reception or restaurant area, in the rooms there is no access. Spa is quite expensive. Apart from these shortfalls I would anyway recommend to stay in town where there are a number of good options and have the opportunity to enjoy Udaipur without the need of a driver. Go to Fateh Garh for a tea to enjoy the view.

We stayed at Fateh Garh for three nights at the end of 2011. The view of the hotel from the road is stunning, sitting beautifully on the top of a hill. I was really impressed by the size of the rooms which were nice and spacious for us, a bonus as we were travelling with our 18 month old.

However the problems came at night time, our room and the rooms of our friends were very noisy as they were above a kitchen that worked late into the night and early in the morning. So I recommend not staying in rooms 26 - 30. We did move rooms and staff were very good about accommodating our requests. There's also a lot of marble which helps the noise travel - might be nice to have a few more rugs around.

As already mentioned it is a distance from the city but that's quite nice. The food can be a bit repeatitive and it seemed expensive to me. The NYE dinner was beautifully set up but again very expensive! Would be nice to have WiFi included in the price of the rooms.

Room Tip: Don't choose 26-30 and perhaps try and upstairs room. There is a room with a private pool that l...

We would like to thank you for bringing the issues to our notice which you had conveyed during your stay as well. Subsequent to your suggestions, we have made wifi complimentary for 2 hours. We have been maintaining our fnb rates for the past 3 years, recession has however hit us all and we are now planning to revise the menu and the rates. Our kitchen has double doors to avoid noise percolation, unfortunately one of the doors had to be sent for repairs during your stay which has since been installed back and the issue of noise resolved for good. I would like to thank you again for the valuable suggestions that help us look after our guests better.

Fateh Garh, a Heritage Renaissance Resort - Sanctuary, perched on the edge of Udaipur city in the Aravalli ranges, with 360° commanding views, welcomes guests with style & traditional fanfare. Fateh Garh, a 50 room property offers travelers a spacious, peaceful and quiet refuge from the noisy and crowded urban India. Conde Nast Hot List 2009:- "Until now the best places to stay in Udaipur have been the princely piles on Lake Pichola's shores or its fairy-tale island palace. Fateh Garh offers something different: "Heritage Renaissance" style. Perched on a hilltop 20 minutes outside the city, this newly constructed 51-room hotel incorporates local stone and antique architectural elements culled from abandoned historic buildings. A confection of bulbous domes, sugar-white pillars, crenellations, and intricate jali screens, it escapes the kitschy through its graceful proportions and airy reception areas, courtyard, and verandas—all of which are graced with antiques and delicate frescoes inspired by the style of Rajput miniatures. Lie by the infinity pool, listening to the sound of splashing fountains mingling with live classical shehnai music. The hotel kitchen does best with local Mewari dishes, which are a welcome change from standard Indian hotel fare". ... more   less
