“Romantic dinner with excellent view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2011

They say that dinner on the terrace at the Taj Lake Palace offers one of the best views in the world and this is certainly true. So, if you don't care to much about the price and if you are celebrating a special occasion, you should book a table here. Food is high quality international cuisine and the service is impeccable. We appreciated the restaurant rather more the hotel itself, which we found expensive without justifcation.

“The food.... so so, but well worth the efforts if you can get in”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2010

It tool a lot of finegalling to get a reservation.... for the completely empty dining room for lunch... then came multiple security stops along the way.... if you do get a reservation, make sure you know who you made ti with and get all the details..... We fortunately had a cel phone with us and had to hand it over to at least two guards along the way to confirm that we did in fact have a reservation.

You get brought over on your own private boat, are met on the other side by an attendant donning a parasol..... the experience was well worth it. The dining room is exquisite, with amazing views of the palace and the town. The hotel is just amazing. The service was wonderful and the food was so so.... even for the price of it it was well worth the journey over. Lunch for two with wine was our most expensive meal in India, but one of the most memorable.

“Oh my word......my favourite place in India”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2008

We went there as a one day / night treat and it was DEFINATELY worth it.

We won't go into details as that's part of the fun, but if you can stretch to it - do it. Its not just a one night stay, it is the experience. If you can stay, make sure you set aside enough time to really enjoy it - we arrived at 11am and left at around 1pm the next day (begrudgingly as I really didn't want to!)

Stretch to a lake view room (or if you are lucky enough, to one of the breathtaking suites...) And make sure you email in advance to reserve a table at the rooftop restaurant as it gets booked up early (only 20 covers per night).

In contrast to the recently built oberoi hotel in udiapur, the lake palace is part of the historic city and therefore you feel part of it.

Ps I overheard someone say there is no point staying there as the best view is of the lake palace hotel from the bank of the lake. All I can say is 'don't knock it until you have tried it' - he hadn't. If he had the opportunity I am sure he would not be knocking it.
