We have skied Angel Fire every year for the past 10 years, and this was our 3rd consecutive year at the Lodge. We have skied many of the mountains in Colorado and New Mexico, and Angel Fire is the most family friendly and has the best runs across all levels. The Lodge could not be more convenient and the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff are always extremely friendly and more than willing to offer assistance. We had our dog with us, and thus chose not to have housekeeping, but she checked in with us anyway to make sure we did not need anything and that we were okay. We look forward to returning next year, to our "home away from home."

My husband and I went for five nights (Thur. - Mon.)after a ten year skiing hiatus. Our king room (512) was clean, very spacious, and had a picturesque heater diguised as a fireplace which made the atmosphere cozy. Our room and the one next door shared a small entryway that set us back from the main hall and kept things quiet (this may not have been the case if we had noisy neighbors, but we did not). The view from the balcony was not exceptional, but having a balcony was pleasant. There were plenty of towels and room enough to store the many clothes, etc., needed for a ski trip. A microwave, small coffee maker, and mini fridge were nice amenities along with the standard shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Check-in was easy and fast, the bed was comfortable, and the shower had strong pressure and plenty of hot water. Our room was cleaned every day before 2pm and we never had to wait for the elevator up to our floor.
We stored our skis/boots close to the lifts, but the lodge had a room by the front door where we could have stored them for free AND caught a shuttle the would drop us of right at the lift. Since we didn't mind walking up the steps, we didn't take advantage, but it was a nice service.
The restaurants on the property offered a variety of food/drinks but were pricey, as we expect from most resorts. We found the staff at the lodge, the ski rental place, and the lifts to be especially friendly and helpful. There didn't appear to be much nightlife in AF after 9pm, but perhaps we missed it. We did find a Dollar store where any forgotten supplies could be purchased within a short drive from the lodge. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience and would recommend.

Once again this year we returned with a bigger group to Angel Fire Resort. We elected to stay in the Condo's that are managed by the resort, due to the fact that we needed more room and liked the idea of a full kitchen. These off-site property's are only managed by the resort. They are privately owned. This is important to keep in mind. We were in Mountain Spirit 311. The only complaint that I personally had was that the owner needed to invest in new mattresses. I spoke with the Lodge manager and that information will be passed along to the condo owner.

The resort is working with a new reservation system that is suppose to be more customer friendly. That's not always the case, so be patient. Remember your on vacation.

As I write reviews, I find that it is important that if you have a complaint with regard to your stay. Please address it with management immediately. In most cases things can be worked out and your stay will be more enjoyable.

If I can offer readers of my review a few tips about Angel Fire Resort facilities. Condo vs Lodge.

Pets
This lodge is pet friendly, but call ahead.
Condo's may or may not be. It's at the Condo's Owner discretion.

Wi-Fi
The lodge has high speed internet
Condo's may or may not be. (But just make your way back to the resort and use it there)

Cleaning Fee
The lodge has daily service at no additional cost
Condo's charge a one time cleaning fee. If you need additional towels, etc. you are provided a number at check in to contact for Condo renter needs.

Not all Condo's have elevators. So check before booking. Three flights of stairs is long way to haul your families stuff.

Getting to the slopes. Shuttle Service
Lodge: Pick up is available in front of lodge or walk up the stair out the back to the slopes.
Condo's: Shuttle Service will make rounds, ask where your condo pick up location is.

The one thing that I am suggesting to management is go back to that big bulky information packet at check in. Include Angel Fire Chamber information. (Grocery Store, Places to eat outside the resort, etc.) Many book their trip and don't come back to address these things until they arrive, which slows the process of getting to the slopes as fast as possible. It's hard to cover all the information at check in. And the customer can not say that didn't know....It's in their packet.....

I wish that they offered a better breakfast other than The Lift Coffee House. My family likes to have a big breakfast, they way they can stay on the slopes. For this reason, we decided to go with the Condo's this year.

I recommend staying at the Resort, now that I have stayed at both. For me....I am on vacation to....I forgot that this trip...My husband and I are planning a visit in May...No cooking for me.

All vacations are not without DRAMA, and ours was no exception. My daughter who is a type 1 diabetic, insulin pump error coded and shut down. Made a phone call and the resort staff was there immediately to do whatever they could. A call was made to the manufacture and a reset was needed. Her pod had gotten too cold, the staff solved it by suggesting that a hand heat warmer be put in her pocket closest to the pod to keep it warm. It worked. When in doubt....Call the front desk.

Also, don't cheat yourself by trying to put more people in your room or condo than it can hold, thinking you can save money. It's important to tell them how many will be in your party when you make your initial reservation and get the appropriate room. Don't wait till your get there, nothing may be available. We met a family who were upset about their unit. In fact it wasn't the unit at all. They were trying to put more people in a unit than it would hold.

Enjoy your stay at Angle Fire Resort. The management staff is great to work with.

FYI: I recommend Johnnie Freeman if you need ski lessons. Tell reservations when you book your stay. My son-in-law never skied. I scheduled a 2 hour lesson and he was good to go.

Dear bumpetyboocarter,

Thank you for being a returning guest! Your feedback and rating is appreciated.

You have outlined some very important topics for other guests to take into consideration when planning their accommodations, which I know many will appreciate. I am happy that the staff was able to assist your daughter, and family, during your visit and I hope that all is now going well with her insulin pump.

Ski lessons, both group and private, are great for those that haven't skied before or for those that want to have a refresher lesson. I look forward to sharing this with Johnnie Freeman and the ski school director.

We do hope that you get to return in May so that you can experience Angel Fire Resort and all that it offers during summer.

Happy and safe travels.

Sincerely,
Joe Kendall

My son-in-law and I had a wonderful trip. Great skiing and truly enjoyed the accommodations. We arrived two days late but it was worth every penny that I paid for the room. My sincere thanks to AFVC for the wonderful trip.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort. I was worried, because I saw some reviews that discuss the rooms not being clean. I am going to assume that they have fixed that issue, since both our rooms were very clean. The resort is older, but they have done a great job keeping it looking up to date. I would recommend staying here as opposed to somewhere off site. Last time we visited Angel Fire we stayed at another place and it is so much easier to stay on site, so you don’t to have to haul gear back and forth. All of the staff were great. The only people that were a little intense were the ones at the equipment rental place, but they really have to be to keep the line (that went out the door and around the corner) moving and keep us on time for our ski lessons. We had ski lessons and the teens had snowboarding lessons. The instructors were wonderful!

We had a room that overlooked the pool with a cute balcony. I recommend this room if you have kids and want to keep an eye on what’s going on at the pool. I don’t recommend this room if you plan to go to bed early. You can hear everything that is going on at the pool (even with the door closed), but then again it closes at 9pm, so quiet after then. Equipment Rental Tip: If you are renting equipment….trust me….get there when they open. I would recommend eating breakfast after you rent your gear to avoid the lines. Also, bring snacks/drinks for late nights. Everything closes at 9pm, so you might want to have some snacks in your room. Our rooms had a mini fridge, but the microwave was shared with the rest of the floor.

Pack a few games if you have kids. There is the pool for evening activities, but not too many other things to keep them busy. You might also want to throw a few quarters in ahead of time just in case you want to rent a locker. Skiing tip: OK, we learned this a little late….get off the bunny slope. If you are able to stand up and get moving then you really should be fine off the bunny slop and head to another beginner course. The bunny slop tends to get clogged, especially at the bottom. You just make yourself frustrated, because you have to keep stopping. If you head to another slop, there is a ton of room and not as many people. It was soooo much easier.
