This is one of the entrance gate of mehrangarh fort. This gate is lead to queen's palace. The handprints of the queens, who performed sati/johar are main attraction of it.

The Gate INTO The Fort is impressive, and the name plaque - Wow- but the imprints on the near Wall and the tales of why, when, how etc are 'thought provoking' and a bit harrowing.

This therefore is a MUST see for those who wish to reflect on those times when women were so severely subjugated that self-immolation was considered a good idea.

Afraid our value-system is quite different and we walked away saddened at the very idea of who bad things were for women back then and how little progress has been made since.

This is not an Issues exclusive to India, so we are not criticising. These are our Views, Observations & Opinions and shape how we felt and this Review.

One of the saddest moments of 26 days.

Quite interesting what ones beliefs will lead one to do.

Since widows were not allowed to remarry they sometimes would put their hand prints on the wall and throw themselves into the funeral pyre if their husband to achieve instant immortality.

While not allowed to remarry the village would care for them.

In today’s environment this is hard to fathom.

Note this is part of the fort and not a separate site.

Satyajit Ray has already made this structure famous through his award winning Feluda series. The structure has a rich history associated with it. You can feel the fallen heroes and the bygone days when this place was buzzing with activities. Must visit.
