The location is the best hotel!! I will stay at this hotel whenever I go to Jaisalmer. The view from the rooftop is the best and everyone can relax very much. The staff are very kind and will take care of everything including desert tours.

Room Tip: A room with a city view

From the moment we stepped foot in the guest house, we felt uncomfortable. We booked 3 months in advance and upon arrival we were told that they never received our booking or our payment through Cleartrip and didn't have a room for us. After being on the phone with Cleartrip for 15 minutes, asking for a reimbursement, the owners of the establishment did an about-face and informed us that they had in fact received our booking in October and our payment just a few days/weeks ago. Then they said they had a room for us. Looking back we felt tested the entire time.

Then we got into our room, which was perfectly fine, clean and comfortable. We sat down for lunch at their restaurant and were informed that they have a free guide for the city if we were interested. We accepted after hearing that we wouldn't be charged - we didn't know our way around the city and were excited to have a guide. The hotel owner also told us not to purchase anything inside the fort because everything was more expensive. He told us about a "government certified" textile shop outside the fort that he recommended.

After we finished an average lunch, we followed the tour guide outside of the fort and without asking where we wanted to go, he immediately took us to a "government certified" textile shop called KALA KRITI. The shop owner showed us women sitting in a circle working on some sort of textile then quickly shuffled us into another showroom, offered us chai, and asked us to sit down. Their story is that women come daily from the desert to make their textiles and they give 60% of their profits to the women who go home at the end of the day. They also say the quality of their textiles is the best to justify the ridiculous prices (it's really all the same stuff). A million red flags should have gone off for us at that point but unfortunately they had us hook line and sinker. They started showing us beautiful textiles all the while reminding us that everything had a fixed price. Collectively we ran up a bill that was WAY out of our budget, but we all believed our money was going to a good cause. We purchased everything and had it shipped home. Luckily the light bulb went on at the end of the day, we realized that we got scammed. One of us raced back to the store and finally got our money back after over an hour of excuses for why they could not give it to us (upon arrival they shut out the lights and all the workers ran out the back, then after that trick didn't work they tried to say they had already "taken taxes out" of our purchase so a full refund would not be possible).

After the ordeal we realized how they were using emotional blackmail, and the lie of "fixed prices" to get 5 to 10 times the amount of money the textiles were actually worth. These people are professional scammers. You can find this sort of textile scam being reported online in Jaipur or Jodhpur, but it's also clearly an issue in Jaisalmer as well. Please be aware, don't always believe a good story, do your research and be very careful with hotels, tour guides, and shops with fixed government rates around the fort and town. If we didn't have such a bad shopping experience at the recommendation of the owner I would have given the guest house 4 to 5 stars. It has a great view. Good luck!

I stayed with Surja for 3 days. Their host Raj and Yogi are more than welcoming. Once you are there and meet them, it feels like you belong there. Hotel servicing and rooms are more than perfect. Rooms with the best view possible in Jaisalmer. They also arranged a really good safari in the desert. I visited during new year time when it is too crowded but surprisingly he arranged safari at a place where I couldn't find anyone else camping which made the experience more exciting and thrilling. Wouldn't think twice about staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: Best and Quiet View, affordable prices and wonderful hospitality.
