The khandagiri and udaygiri caves are the remains of architecture in caves which is preserved beautifully by Odisha and the beautiful and scenic view from the hill top is a must for tourists who are visiting this place for the first time

Khandagiri caves are located next to Udayagiri caves. These contain 15 caves. Carvings of Jain Thirthankaras are found in cave no 14. A Digambara Jain Temple is located on the top of the hill. One can have a good view of Bhubaneshwar city from the hill. It involves climbing of a lot number of steps. Elders may not be able to make it.

Another set of caves just like udaygiri and very close to it too. Offers similar sightseeing like the uday giri caves. Steep climb will take you to the caves where Jain monks have inscribed all over the walls. The view of the city from the top of the hills is breathtaking.

Khandagiri hills located at a distance of 10 Km from main Bhubaneswar railway station and 6 Km from Bhubaneswar airport. Rock cut caves excavated from these two hills are essentially dwelling retreats of the Jaina ascetics. Caves are excavated by king Kharavela and his successors in first century BC. Entry fee for Udayagiri is Rupees five for Indians and Rupees one hundered or USA $2 for other than Indians.
There are fifteen caves in Khandagiri. Most of the caves consist of rows of cells having opening towards the common verandas or open space. The doorways have attractive carvings of animals, creepers and flowers. Some of the caves are double storyed. Ranigumpha, Swaragpuri-Manchapuri are double storied. Ganesh gumpha ( cave ) is another cave to visit.
