“Great place but standoff-ish host family”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2011

Great place inside the coffee estate. Higher priced cottages (outside the main house) are w-a-y better than the rest (only slightly economical). Agree with most of the positive comments by other reviewers. However, we did not have the benefit of enjoying the warmth of the host family. It is possible that they are tired of meeting complete strangers or were busy on those days. I would recommend them employing a manager to handle day-to-day affairs and manage the staff-members that mostly speak Kannada ("gotta illa" for us). That person could also give a guided tour of the coffee estate and tell us about food that is served (local cuisine?). So, the visitors would go back not only with unique experience but with some firsthand knowledge about coffee farming. Moreover, we could have also avoided the embarrassment of requesting the lady of the house when someone forgot to put toilet rolls!

Room Tip: Choose cottages Arabica and Robusta over cottages Kent and Sandromon

Initially we had booked the low end rooms. But once we reached there and saw the individual cottages, we were left breathless!! They had such an amazing view facing the imposing Mullyangiri peak that we immediately upgraded to those cottages.

They were nice old heritage type cottages reflecting the culture of local architecture. It had a nice balcony with easy chairs perfect for an evening sit out. The food served also had local cuisine and was very tasty and served nice and hot.

Apart from the beauty of the setup and the spacious and luxurious rooms, the thing which stood out most about our stay was the hospitality offered. You actually feel like being at home as guests of the family. The hosts were very cordial and would always make it a point to visit during the meals and give company. They even gave us a tour of their ancestral house which was more than a 100 years old. It was a very nice and warm gesture by them

I would definitely recommend this place to people looking for a nice weekend break

Any first time experience will be cherished for a long time if it is a happy one. we wanted to experience a home stay for the first time and stayed in tippanahalli home stay from jun3to5.
It was a very rewarding experience as you are made to feel at home with good food well maintained cottage. The view of mulyangiri hill from the verandah of Arabica cottage was indeed breath taking. Waking up to the calls of several birds instead of an alarm from the cell phone was very welcome. The morning walk in the plantation was enjoyable.Dog lovers may enjoy the dogs' welcome barking during the walk but others advised to check the time/route for morning walk beforehand.

Room Tip: collect road map to mulyangiri from the host

We checked into the hotel on an evening. The family was very hospitable and had prepared the room for us very well. The location of the place is excellent and the buildings were built in the old colonial style. They had good options for recreation like TT board, walker's track (in the coffee estate) and gardens. The food was good as well.

We were a group of four families, a total of 8 adults and 7 children. Booked all four rooms except the one in the main bungalow. It was like a private resort bcos it was only us in the whole place other than the hosts for 3 nights. All rooms were clean and neat. food was good. location was good. Great place for plantation walks. drive to nearby mulliangiri peak is an absolute must. Travellers who prefer to relax and enjoy privacy can avoid the kemmangundi, kalhatty falls, hebbe falls etc. The place itself was not more than 10kms from chikmaglur town. No mobile signals. Overall a wonderful holiday at just 4 hours drive from bangalore. value for money was reasonable at 5k per family per day plus around 750 for children above 6 years. Daily Housekeeping of the room has to be reminded.
