We first came in here in 2015 while doing the Leh Laddakh bike trip. My wife Lakshmi had booked the place & we were 4 friends.
Uncle Norboo helped us to locate the place & even came to a common point to pick us up. It was 2015 & because of Nepal earthquake there were hardly tourists in Leh. Considering we were really tired with our non stop motorbike ride & availability of the better rooms, they upgraded our stay without we even asking for it. They did not even tell us & we discovered this much later.
It was one of the warmest stay we ever experienced with a lot of personal care shown to us my Norboo uncle & aunty.
Fast forward to 2018, I & my wife are here for Stok Kangri trek & we made it a point to come back here.
This is a perfect place to stay in leh , me and 11 of us had visited this place , initially found it difficult to map this place since the roads were blocked but it's just 10 mins walk from the main market.this homestay is true to it's name very homely, felt like home relaxing place. The food was amazing ,homely food had fun staying here!rooms were clean , good service would recommend this place.
Ser-Dung is that perfect, homely place in Leh that gives you a first glimpse of amazing Ladakhi hospitality. Located at just 5 minutes bike-ride from the main Leh market / shopping area, this place offers a cozy & relaxing stay, away from the hustle-bustle & buzz of the busy market. The small bylane for the entrance of the place is quite unique.
The neatly-kept & well-equipped rooms with traditional wooden ceilings, the balconies, the open-sitting area with an apricot tree, small-flower beds & backyard garden.. There are lots of spaces to relax in this home. On cold Ladakhi mornings, the living room can liven up with people and conversations over ginger tea!
The real beauty of this place lies in the hosts! Phunsok Angmo is a fantastic host and she literally planned our entire Ladakh itinerary.. Ammale (Mom in Ladakhi language) and Abaale (Papa in Ladakhi) were lovely hosts. Had great breakfast and after-dinner conversations here with the hosts who left no stone unturned to make us feel at home. Our days here started with a fantastic traditional Ladakhi bread that Ammale made with Apricot jam and Ginger tea. And the evenings ended as perfectly with the fresh north-Indian home-cooked supper!
Leh city serves more of getaway to all sides of Ladakh such as Nubra Valley - Turtuk on North West, Pangong lake on North East and Tso Moriri on the eastern side. And ‘Ser-Dung’ makes for the perfect homestay that allows you in all this travelling that sometimes can be a bit hectic.
1. The main house is separated from the road with a narrow bylane, so you can't take your bikes or cars all the way upto the home.
2. Internet connectivity and phone network is not great in the entire Ladakh region. Though, it’s a bit better in Leh city compared to the remote areas. May be you can temper your expectations about these!
We got this guest house as last minute changes to our previously booked hotel.
Its a bit far from main market but the way owners of the guest house greeted us ,feels like you are at your home.
Food they provided was also just like we ate at our home.No fancy items in dinner, normal roti/phulka,dal-rice and 2 curries. So tasty that you will forget your tiring journey.
We booked 5 rooms. One room was having some issue with Geyser except that no other negative points.
Rooms were quite big with TV almost equivalent to a three star hotel room.
They provided us with the special Khamiri roti when we are leaving.
