“Beautiful hotel, better than expected”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

We looked around this hotel last year while staying in Baga. We read all the reviews and talked to a friend who had stayed there and so booked our first visit to this hotel and the resort of Candolim. (Previously stayed in Arpora and Baga).

We agree with all the positive comments about the location, gardens, facilities and the rooms in this beautiful hotel. However what made this hotel exceptional for us was the excellent friendly staff, from the gardeners to the restaurant and bar staff. Even when we were stressed and irritable due to being delayed and tired they were patient, friendly and hospitable.

We will definitely be booking to stay here again.

I booked at Santana based on the great reviews, and it lived up to expectations! Staff were funny and very friendly, and I could see that they developed great relationships with some of the longer staying visitors there, which was great. They had a library with books and magazines for reading and for the beach, which was greatly appreciated (and many in Finnish :) ). The rooms were very large and very clean, and bed was comfortable. Cleaner was extremely friendly as well. Breakfast was great, with lots of options to choose from and good coffee and juice :) Option to pay if you want different breakfast (e.g. bacon and sausage). Great music playing for breakfast as well which led to the start of a relaxing morning. 2 minute walk to the beach, a more secluded part of the beach so was able to relax and swim without too many people around. The Calamari restaurant also serves up very good food. Shops are a few minutes away from the beach if you need a chemist, drinks, etc. Resort was beautifully maintained, with gardens and places to sit and relax. Bar had good drinks, and were very reasonably priced (120 taxes included for gin and tonic). Seafood at dinner was also excellent. Highly recommend Santana for an easygoing, relaxed stay in Goa at a good price in good company with very good access to a quiet part of the northern Goan beaches!

What a lovely hotel this is! The location is excellent just a short stroll through the well maintained the grounds of the hotel and you are on the beach.
The gardens are stunning, with a huge variety of plants constantly maintained by talented and dedicated gardeners.
The rooms are spacious and clean the housekeeping standards were excellent.
The staff were very friendly and eager to help with any issues that arose.
Breakfast was fine juice, cereals, eggs toast etc.
The pool was great to relax and cool off in.Just one bug bear to do with the pool area that is with people saving sunbeds by placing their towels on them ! Went to pool one day just 3 people in pool but all sunbeds reserved! How annoying, even saw one lady reserve her sunbed, go for breakfast, then went shopping! How rude.
All in all a superb place to stay in Goa.Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony with a view

So...

Room:
The Good: big, always had hot water, tv with lots of channels (good for when ill!), comfy, clean.
Not so Good: air con at odd level so didn't keep us quite cool enough at night, balcony had rubbish view.

Facilities:
The Good: Gorgeous greenery, plants and well maintained areas. Two pools never too cold! Breakfast was perfect usual toast, eggs, juice, cereal etc, you could order extras at a cost. Great little library facility and the Internet is available at 100rs an hour.. We later found out you could get 3 days for a bit more but when I asked if we could have a card we could reuse they said no at reception.
Not so Good: hate to say it but think the coleslaw with our lunch gave us dodgy stomachs.. It was the only thing with both ate the same in the period before we got quite ill. Obviously I can't say for def but pretty sure about that. Other art from that hiccup the food was good!

Location: Candolim seems quite big and the hotel is located towards the bottom but that's ok still plenty of shops and lovely restaurants! Two minute walk to the beach!

Staff: All staff very friendly apart from reception who can seem a bit nonchalant and uninterested.

If we were to return to this area then we would stay here!

This was a pleasant surprise on our trip to Goa. We were travelling all over the state and came across different types of accommodation, but this was definitely the one that left us feeling relaxed and recharged. The staff is helpful, everyone around would greet and smile. The location was amazing, you walk through the back yard and exit onto the beach directly. If you don't like lying around on the beach, you can stay inside the resort around one of the two pools they have. Now, these can be sometimes too busy or feel like you never left Britain, but it is a nice alternative. Breakfast was good as well. If you do not like the continental selection you can always order your own selection against small charge. The garden is what got us the most, all the greens, all the flowers, well kept and maintained by the gardeners. It is such a relaxing pleasure just to seat around and enjoy the colours. Once you go out of the resort, there are plenty of restaurants and shops on the main road to keep you busy for a long time. It is also very family friendly place, so if you are more of a party person you won't be able to do that here after 10pm
