“very disappointing holiday”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

Just got back from the Silver Sands Hotel. Very, very disappoining indeed. Nice Staff, but it ends there. Not cleaned properly, but tidy. Fly infested breakfast room- not for us. Took the breakfast up to our Superior room [no flies] cup had lipstick on it, tray filthy stained and one time a huge peice missing from the side of it. The bungalow roofs had rats in them, the tiles had holes in them and some tiles were hanging off. The lavatory seat was hanging off, so we asked for new one. one of the towels had something horrible on it, looked like excrement.
50 yards form our room there was an Indian Cremation, the smoke and ash blew into our balcony and room.Nearby disco, Thump thump thump from 5 00pm till 11 00pm. It was mental torcher. I was ill for the last 5days there. I couldn't wait to get home. should have asked for a transfer to a better place.

Room Tip: pay for a superior room if you want privacy

We have just returned from a months holiday at Silver sands holiday village. We had a really lovely, very large room. Everything spotless clean, the staff are great. The location is perfect, right on Beach rd. Just a 2 min stroll to some great beach shacks. BONOs is lovely, with really clean toilets. We used to go to THE CARVERY on beach road. The food there is excellent and plenty of varied entertainment. Everywhere there were smiling, friendly people. We will certainly be going back to Silver sands again. really missing the place already.

Room Tip: corner rooms are very large and sunny, massive comfortable beds, and the pillows are the best I ever...

Fantastic location, you couldn't get any nearer to the beach unless you were staying in a beach shack! There are lots of restaurants in the street just outside without having to stroll up to the main road which is busy at night. The staff at the hotel are really lovely, nothing is too much trouble for them. We had probs with our air con and hot water when we first arrived, but this was sorted out in no time. We had a superior room, which meant we had pre-paid air con and a fridge. You could probably manage without air con in Jan as the room has a powerful fan and the nights are lovely and cool but as the days are still hot the air con did come in handy during the day and early evening and the odd muggy night. Our room was cleaned every day with fresh linen and towels every other day. The shower wasn't very powerful but you can manage so that's a minor issue. The breakfast was very basic - toast, tea/coffee and juice, but you can pay for eggs etc. if that is what you want. It tended to get very busy at breakfast time so I just used to take toast back up to our room as we took a kettle with us. It's been 18 years since we last went to Goa and obviously it has changed and become more commercialised, but to me it's a big improvement - I appreciate that not everyone would agree with me! The beach shacks, bars and restaurants are clean, serve fantastic food and have clean western toilets. To be honest I was really apprehensive about going back to Goa but I am so glad I did. It is a fantastic place with wonderful, kind and genuine friendly people. We booked this hotel because of the excellent reviews on both the hotel and the resort, we absolutely loved both. So much so that having just got back on Sunday, we booked the next day to return next year, same resort, same hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with basic comfort, fantastic location, friendly helpful staff, then this may well be the one for you.

Room Tip: superior rooms are spacious have powerful ceiling fan, air con and fridge.

We have just returned from a three week stay at the Silver Sands. We were in a superior room but it was still very basic so not sure if it was worth the cost of the upgrade. Room was clean with bed linen & towels changed every other day. Having a shower is a race against time because you have only 5 litres of hot water before it runs out & you have to wait 15 mins or so before its hot again for the next person. Great location at the end of the beach road just a couple of minutes walk to the beach & close to lots of good restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff. Pool in the shade most of the time which didn't matter to us as we prefer the beach. We used the boat shack, very friendly. Overall a good value hotel - I wouldn't hesitate to stay again

We have just got back from a 2 week stay at Silver Sands from 3rd Jan until 17th Jan. This was our 7th trip to Goa but our first to Silver Sands and we were pleased with the hotel.

We stayed in a bungalow room, it was basic but newly painted, clean with a fan and AC and served it's purpose well as a place to sleep and shower! Rooms were cleaned daily and sheets and towels changed every other day.

The staff were really helpful, we asked for extra pillows and got them within about 5 minutes, when we asked for some extra toilet rolls we came back to about 24 stacked up on top of the toilet ... so they had a good sense of humour too.

Breakfast was the usual goan basic fare, coffee tea fruit juice and toast, you could order more off the menu and pay for it - I would recommed the banana porridge.

The reception / bar area was a good place to chill with a beer after a busy day haggling on the beach, the other half was very happy that he could get onto WiFi for 300 rupees for the 2 weeks.

Safes could be hired from reception, padlocks were provided, it was 1000 rupees for the 2 weeks of which 300 was returned as a deposit at the end - so in all cost less than £10 for the 2 weeks which was worth it

The swimming pool was mainly shaded and was freezing cold, but served it's purpose for a cool down after a hot days sunbathing on the beach.

this hotel is in a great location, in walking distance to loads of good restraunts, very close to the beach and with a taxi rank outside if you want to venture further afield.

Room Tip: best rooms are the superior rooms, if not available then ask for a bungalow room
