We spent a week here as a break before our baby arrives. Sadly the weather was rather wet but this did not stop us from enjoying our holiday. Now some details....

Accommodation was great - heaps of room, indoor/outdoor bathroom and plenty of privacy. No electronics such as a TV but we didn't miss them either. Only issue was the bed - too soft for anyone with a bad back (or pregnant). However, I am sure others would be happy.

The resort is on a cliff, so great views, and easy access to a very nice little beach (one of very few on this volcanic island). However, we spent most of our time at the pool, lounging at our villa, or on excursions.

The Fijian staff are great - always smiling, friendly and helpful, even if they did sometimes get our dinner orders a bit confused! Most night there was entertainment via singing, plus a village dance one night.

We did most of the standard excursions - Koralevu island BBQ/snorkeling, Lavaena Walk and a local snorkel. All worthwhile, especially the Lavaena walk (take the boat to the water fall, then have an easy walk back along the coast).

The coral in front of the resort is almost all destroyed from a hurricane, and is only slowly returning, so you need to do these excursions to see anything worthwhile.

We tried the massages - mine was fine but my wife (who is an expert on these!) felt hers were too light, even after asking for a firmer massage. Hence we did not bother with the 5 day package. Having the 'spa' option is nice but not really why one would come to this resort.

Wifi was available although took a bit of juggling to get a signal in our bure. The $10 package lasted us for 4 days and is all you need (although I think that they could throw this in for free given the overall cost).

Meals were served in a lovely open air setting (plus the option of a private, secluded beachside location). We loved our entrees (great soups) and desserts, but felt the mains were a bit repetitious after 6 days. Always a fish dish (often cooked in the same style), plus a second choice of some other meat such as beef/lamb (probably imported and hence frozen) or chicken. Quantities are huge - we always struggled to finish. You can request salads or specials, but we missed some of the more exotic seafood which I thought would have been available - no lobster, crabs and prawns only once. However, in fairness, Australians are very spoiled as regards food options - I am sure guests from other countries would be very happy.

What was missing? Not much - no library (but we brought our own books), and limited options as regards games, fitness etc when it rains. However, this is primarily a honeymoon, couples place, so not sure it really mattered.

We took one star off because of the bed and the food variety, but in summary, we enjoyed our holiday very much and thanks to all the staff that made it special.

Room Tip: Oceanview bures are worth it - try Mokosoi

When I returned home a few days ago from an amazing stay at Taveuni Island Resort, I read other people's comments on Trip Advisor. I can only endorse all the wonderful comments and say that they are not exaggerated in any way. However I would also like to add that this beautiful place has a most amazing nurturing and healing energy. The air is so clean and clear. The food fresh, and as much as possible grown and sourced locally. There is just something magical about this land - about the beautiful people who live here - the way they have of offering all a guest could want whilst still respecting privacy. Do and Ric, and their lovely family and staff are all so centered on creating the best experience for those who visit and I can say without reservation that they succeed wonderfully. At the moment the Olympic Games are being contested in London, and in my opinion Do and Ric have also deservedly WON GOLD in their field.

We stayed for a blissful 10 days at Taveuni Island Resort for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time! We stayed in a beautiful oceanfront bure and couldn't have asked for a more romantic, majestic view. We had complete privacy in our bure and on the lawn of our bure. The interior of the bure was luxurious with modern island decor. Do, Ric, and Matt were welcoming and gracious. Every member of the staff was exceedingly kind. We took four tours (to the waterfalls, 180 meridian/town/waterfall slide, Koralevu island snorkeling, and Lavena Walk) with Nu, who was the sweetest guide ever and a literal lifesaver on an excursion or two! The cooks and servers were so lovely; we still talk about Solate. Every single meal was fresh, inspired, and fantastic.
We couldn't have been happier with Taveuni Island Resort and will treasure our time there for the rest of our lives.

My husband and I traveled to Fiji for our honeymoon in September of 2011. And I can honestly say that we left our hearts in Taveuni. Do, Ric, Matt, and the entire staff were so welcoming and engaging from the moment we stepped foot on the resort to the moment we left. We'll always treasure our snorkeling and hiking adventures with Sai, the delicious cookies in our bure, the incredible view from the infinity pool as well as our nighly serenades by local musicians. Halfway around the world is not too far to travel to experience the love and beauty of this tropical paradise.
