OK, so we've just got back from 11 nights at the Jaz Aquamarine, this was my 3rd time in Egypt and overall it was a pretty good hotel.

Reception - Check-in was a painless process and handled very efficiently with your luggage being delivered to your room within 5-10 minutes.

Rooms - We stopped in one of the larger deluxe family rooms. No complaints at all, large and spacious with a large bathroom. Abdul did a great job of keeping it clean everyday.

Pools - With 18+ pools to choose from you're spoilt for choice, all are well maintained with plenty of room for everyone.

Bars - The bar service was a little hit and miss as others have said, money talks though, find the right waiter and give him a small tip (£1-£2/night) early on in your holiday and you shouldn't have any problems. The staff seem to like the British tourists.....

Buffet Restaurants - The main restaurant can get very busy, we generally ate in the Four Corners restaurant which was less busy and seemed to have more choice. As for the food itself there was plenty to choose from and and the whole it was all cooked through and kept warm.

Specialty Restaurants - When you can get booked into these (see below) they are great, excellent service, good selection of food well worth it. Just the issue of actually getting booked in during peak season.

Water Slides - These were on the whole pretty good and better than we expected them to be, only downside is the queuing. You queue at the bottom to collect the rubber ring, you queue again at the top to get on the slide etc etc. From the point of getting out of the water at the bottom of the slide to getting back on the slide again you can be a good 15 mins during busy periods.

Sun loungers - As others have said there are plenty of these, and with 18+ pools to choose from you're never going to be too far from them. If you're picky where you sit you need to be up with your towels before 8am.

Restaurant Dress Code - We were lead to believe that men needed to wear long trousers in the restaurants in the evening. This is not the case, for the 2 buffet restaurants shorts and T-shirts are fine. In the speciality restaurants long shorts (ie over the knee) are required and no flip-flops. In short look like you've made an effort, I wore a pair of long shorts and a shirt with a pair of leather 'smart' flip flops and was allowed in with out a problem but we did see other guests being turned away as they had turned up looking like the'd just come off the beach.

Beach - The beach is typical Red Sea grit, nothing spectacular but a decent enough beach all the same

Snorkeling - The snorkeling at the hotel is decidedly average, there is no easy way out there as they have no jetty at the hotel. If you walk out on the sand bar between the Jaz and the neighbouring hotel you still have a 300m+ swim to get to anything like decent snorkeling.

Hotel wifi - You get free wifi at the hotel and as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. It's not brilliant in that the coverage is patchy, the speed is questionable and the reliability isn't great, however it's free, you can pick up your email or update Facebook when you can get connected so no real complaints.

Maintenance - There is a small army of gardeners, maintenance men etc that keep the hotel grounds and gardens spotless and well maintained.

Ok so onto the BAD points.

Illness - Myself and my wife were both ill with the dreaded Pharaoh's Revenge while we were out there and despite various pills and potions from the local pharmacy couldn't shift it, my wife was ill for 8 out of 11 days we were out there and I was ill for 6 days. We've both been to Egypt before so know the routine about washing hands, avoiding the money etc etc but despite all of this still became ill. It was so bad that it's made us question if we would return to Egypt again.

Restaurant booking - The hotel has quite a good computer system to book the specialty restaurants though allowing you to book upto 48 hours in advance and you would think that was great as for most of them you are allowed unlimited bookings at them. This is where the problem lies as at 12am everyday the system ticks over so you can book for the day after next, unless you are still up at midnight good luck with booking a restaurant as by 9am the next morning there are very few, if any spaces available. The middle eastern restaurant is least busy though and well worth a trip. We did manage to have 4 visits over 11 nights but this required good timing to get the bookings through.

Overall the hotel was pretty good. Had we not had the illness problems I would have probably rated it was 5/5. Would we go back?? Probably not as I wouldn't want to risk getting ill again.

Room Tip: Most rooms are great, deluxe family room particularly good. Don't both with a swim up room

Spent one week there, enjoyed the pools, aqua parks, the beach and the animation activities. The food is average and sometimes you have to wait in long lines infront of snakes kiosks. The free wifi service is horrible (very slow) and there isn't paid wifi , if you need to do some urgent business while you stay there. Staff are friendly and polite and working hard to serve this large number of customers.
