Stayed there a big week. All inclusive treatment was nice with good pinacoladas by the pool. Gym is old but doing the job, access to the beach and boardwalk really easy. Friendly staff, food is okay, nothing fancy but enough. Rooms are average, bathrooms pretty small but overall an okay/good hotel on Salinas standards.

This is one of the two all inclusive resort in the coast of Ecuador, located in salinas which is like 1 1/2 hr ride from the city of Guayaquil...
Very nice, clean place, food is good... Tasty, buffet style, they offer a BBQ dinner after your 2 night which is really good the BBQ restaurant is right by the ocean which makes it extra special, the only thing is that the night we had our dinner the service was very slow... The employs were more worried about cleaning up the tables than us... But the wait was worth it the food was good... And we enjoy our glass of wine while waiting
Other than that all very good, people very nice and friendly, we had a very nice time... And can't wait to be back...
The only reason I give 4 stars is for the slow service sometimes, the Internet is kind of slow. Need a bit more of seafood selection after all is a beach resort.. And not many attractions... Maybe they offer more to do on weekends my stay was on weekdays... So I can't tell you whats going on on weekends...

Room Tip: You get free wifi if booked trough the hotel website otherwise I believe there is a charge... I got mine for free,, all rooms are nice and quiet maybe the ones in the 3 floor a bit louder because that's the pool floor but even there is really not bad

We stayed at this hotel because it seemed to have high ratings and is an "all-inclusive" hotel. As with all things "all-inclusive", they are not truly all-inclusive. The big thing here for us was the all-inclusive meals because we are a family of five, but this was the most sour point of the hotel.

Besides a voucher for one meal in their beachside grill restaurant, the only other all-inclusive meals were at the hotel buffet and the poolside bar. The hotel also has a Mediterranean restaurant and a Japanese restaurant which are not included in the all-inclusive portion. The Japanese restaurant is awkwardly located in the hotel building, but the only entrance is from the outside corner of the hotel, which is a little dark at night.

The one meal we had at the beachside grill was great in terms of the food quality, but the service at this restaurant was poor. You must make a reservation, and on the first night, they did not have our reservation on the books, even though we had made one. We returned the second night, and when we got up to get food from the sides bar, one of the waiters took our table to use for a big group. We had to argue with the waiter to not take our table. The big group left the restaurant upset because they also had a reservation.

The buffet breakfast is fine, especially the fresh omelets they make on the spot. However, the lunch and dinner buffets are very low quality - what I would describe as hospital cafeteria food. The desserts are very poor quality too. The poolside bar offers low quality hot dogs, burgers, and fries.

The front desk staff is polite, but slow to provide service. They did however, allow our family to stay in a room meant for 4 people (two full size beds) and added a roll-away bed for no additional charge. The room was an adequate size. The bedroom area was clean, but the bathroom floor was very dirty along the edges.

We used the spa for massages, which were at an additional, but reasonable price. The massage was average. However, we are massage enthusiasts and have lived in Asia, so perhaps our expectations were too high.

The pool is not huge, but it wasn't crowded. Half of the pool is very shallow and convenient for small children. The water on the beach had strong waves, which were hitting the walls of the malecon, but it was high tide during daytime. We walked about 1km to the other side of the beach where the marina is, and the water was coved in and calmer.

One complaint about the beach is the vendors. Like most Latin American beaches, there's lots of them. However, we've been to several beaches in Brazil, and Salinas beach is vendors on steroids. You get one every 2-3 minutes, and unless you pretend to be asleep, they'll start to show their merchandise until you say no or buy something. The watersports are cheap though. We had a 20 minute banana boat ride for our family of 5, pulled by a speedboat for $10.

Overall, I'm glad we went to Salinas and we had a good time. However, I feel that for the quality of service and food, the Barcelo was overpriced and way overrated. They can do much better.

We have been going to Salinas every year for quite a while. The Barcelo Colon has always been our favorite-good food, nice clean rooms and friendly atmosphere. The food-3 meals a dAY ARE INCLUDED in your stay which is really nice as there aren't many good restaurants in the area. This year, the price has doubled-the food (buffet) tired and ordinary and the service very average. The front desk was arrogant and we were happy to leave.

Room Tip: Don't use internet-PHONE!!
