We’ve heard a lot of good things about Comuna 13 and we decided to let the locals share their country and culture with us. As such, we joined a group of friends from different parts of the world and together we trusted Mariana, our tour guide to help us understand the past, present and promising future of Medellin. The tour started at 4pm and ended late that evening. That was because Mariana was so amazing and full of surprises! She knows her neighborhood, the street performers and everyone around the city knows her. Her personality shines while she shares her stories with passion. You can come prepared to learn about Colombia. If Mariana doesn’t have answers for your questions, she will find them. She is on a mission to educate the tourists visiting her neighborhood and wants to give tourists confidence to come visit Medellin without hesitation. Please keep in mind that during our tour it was raining! But the weather didn’t stop Mariana nor us to continue our tour! We’ve been prepared for rainfall and had our raining jackets with us in our backpack all the time. If you visit during the raining season make sure you bring your raincoat as well! And I hope my review will give you confidence to join this tour! We are grateful for Mariana’s love and passion to share her country with us! We absolutely loved every minute spend together! We send you all our love! Crina&Sarju
Must-do activity while in Medellín. Our guide, Yulieth, was incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share to story of Comuna 13. The fact that the tour guides are locals means that they truly understand the evolution the area has undergone and the human cost in getting there. The tour is pretty long, around 3 hours, but it never felt boring or like there was too much walking. We had opportunities to stop and rest, or get a drink or get a snack. Well worth the suggested the donation, and it's good to know that your money is going back into the community, not to a large corporation.
Our tour guide was Mariana who is a very warm and kind hearted person. She took us around at a very leisurely pace and explained everything to us very nicely and also infused her personal stories into the tour. It rained but Mariana tailored the tour to make sure everyone in the group was comfortable at all times. She also gave us many other recommendations and is truly a genuinely, nice person. Highly recommend this tour.
Totally unique experience and definitely not the usual "free walking tour". You could explore Communa 13 on your own, but you would miss out on a lot of details and first hand stories.
Our guide, Yulieth, was amazing. You could feel her passion for this project and the development of her community.
This tour is a must for your Medellin trip.
I’d give more stars if I could. Stiven was so engaging and knowledgable, explained everything clearly for someone who knew very little before. Recommend highly!
This walking tour was the best thing we did during our time in Medellin. Our guide Yulieth was an amazing tour guide as she was so informative and passionate. You get such great energy from the Communa 13 and you feel the passion from the residents there. I definitely recommend this tour during your visit to Medellin. Thank you again Yulieth!!
