We stayed in a apartment in the walked city. Do glad I chose to stay here over Bocagrande. So much to do and see. Has great restaurants to choose from and live entertainment at might at the various parks. Would love to go back

We started with a walk through the middle of the old city, the architecture is beautiful old buildings with balconies and many grown over with flowering climbers.
Where the town met the sea we climbed the walks and strolled around the city mainly on top of the walls, you do gave to come down regularly, the route around the walls is not interrupted,
From the walls you get a different perspective of the old city and also see on the outside, the sea, the new city and what appears to be a new hotel district going up.
The walled city consists of El Centro, San Diego and Getsemaní, we concentrated our efforts on the 1st two. Once we had completed the circuit (cutting it short by missing Getsemani) we returned to the ground zig zagging through town visiting pretty plazas and popping into churches.

walking during the day , gives you a taste of the life and day activity that happens inside the walls. from shops, restaurants and stores, to government offices and local administrative offices. at night as the sun goes down, the walled city takes you back 200 years ago, to see the narrow corridors full of color, band musics, cafes, wineries, restaurant and the local doing what they do at its best : smile ,dance and sing......happy place

all the nice restaurants and places are in there, outside of it is not very nice or its very commercial. If you visit Cartagena, stay and plan your trip within the city

The walled city of Cartagena itself deserves 5 stars. So beautiful. I'm deducting 1 star just because of the peddlers that come up to you ever 5 seconds. It really ruins the experience. I can appreciate an honest day's work and a hustle, but when I politely say "no gracias" I expect you to peace out.

No trip to Cartagena is complete without visiting the beautiful Palenqueras (fruit sellers). Keep in mind you will be paying for your photos/videos with them. Worth the money though as this is a quintessential Cartagena experience. Finding delicious food was not hard here - plenty of delicious, fresh fish, coconut rice, plantains and salad. But... if you leave the walled city for the Getsemani district, you'll find some local gems with just as good food and a lower price tag.

There are plenty of ATMs around if need be, like Bancolombia and a few others. I felt safe inside the walled city area. I highly recommend taking a tour on the Hop On Hop Off bus to explore the city.
