Owner description: Panda absolutely is highlight in Chengdu. But in Chengdu people’s eyes, leisure and old culture are local highlight. We could show you more than that,EX take you to drink tea and play mahjong in the tea house, learning Taichi with well-known master, trying the brush pen on a rice paper for calligraphy. And also can show you an amazing cooking class in here. Amazing tour guide Cecile pick us from hotel and straight to Leshan to visit the biggest and tallest Buddha in the world. Very knowledgeable and informative. Love that we get to view the Buddha up close and learn about its history. She even brought us for delicious traditional local food. Overall it was an awesome trip!!

It was our second time in Chengdu and wanted to do something special. Charlie arranged for us a very special tour. On the first day, he picked us up at our hotel, had lunch at a local restaurant. He knew just what we wanted, (my mother is a vegetarian but we weren’t) ordered for us a delicious meal. We walked to Chengdu Wu Hou Shrine where Charlie’ knowledge of Chinese history burst. We then went to a local market to buy ingredients for our cooking class. He knows so much about food, and its history, being foodies, this was a treat for us. The cooking class was at a local restaurant with a very talented chef. We made 4 delicious dishes. He improvised a meat dish into a vegetable dish just for my vegetarian mother.
The next day, we went to Leshan Giant Buddha. On the way we drank Chinese tea. After we visited the Giant Buddha, had tea in a tea house 400 years old, met with local people. We went to see a small family-owned tea farm, picked tea leaves, were able to see how the tea was made. The local restaurants and markets were great, quite different from Chengdu, got to know the depth of Sichuan cuisine.
We also went to Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on different days.
Charlie is the best of the best, organized, full of knowledge and professional, knows the best places to go, where and what to eat, where to take pictures, how to avoid crowds, everything you need to make your trip comfortable and without worries.
He is also fun to be with, with a great sense of humor. I fully recommend him to be your guide in the China, especially if you are tired of ordinary tours and want to hear the story behind the culture and history of the great country. Thank you and hope to see you again, very soon.
