Weekend getaway with the family. Big and nice hotel. The entrance lobby gives you a feeling that you are away in some tropical paradise with the typical signature of big pitch roofs. Its good to bring the kids as there are goats and rabbits in the compound which the kids can feed to albiet being in their cages and tied to a tree.
Overall just a lazy weekend to spend, using the pool or gym, going to the spa massage which was not bad. The service wasn't bad either.
Location was easy to find, situated by Yang Cheng Lake famous for its hairy crabs!

Room Tip: Split into east and west wings, I guess the view would be facing the lake, as my room is on the opposite side facing the road.

Average room design, very noisy air conditioning and not cooling enough. Rain shower blocked and not enough pressure, toilet doesn't flush well.
Breakfast very poor and very messy, no cups to drink coffee.
Coffee is served with plastic stir and not a spoon, this should be a minimum standard in 5 star properties.
Chinese restaurant Imperial very poor service and very average food, slow service.
Men toilets in the KTV area all broken, no water, taps out of order, cigarette dropped in the sinks.
Absolute no smile and welcome from staff at all departments.
Staff using lobby toilets !

I have just returned from this hotel as part of a company trip for employees and their families. The Hotel is great with good dining (the western food is at least as good as the Chinese), theres a small fitness centre and a pool and nice grounds overlooking the lake, oh and KTV if that's your thing, but expect it to be filled with local officials or wedding parties on weekend nights.

The rooms are very nice, easily 5* and the whole place is very quiet. ....and that is the downside, there's not a lot to do in the area, you need to get into Suzhou for that. Apparently in Crab Season (sept?) it is very busy, but outside of that some of the facilities are shut down (sauna, steam room, hot tub etc)

If you are looking for some quiet then it's a nice stop on a bigger tour, but not really a destination
