It a university/government run hotel near the Wuhan U medical campus. Most of the complaints one might have are those common to 95% of Chinese hotels, ie, bed is hard, air conditioner never quite cools to a comfortable level, internet is unreliable and slow (even with a VPN), it's not as clean as you'd like, etc. However, the staff has better English than I have Chinese, the place is nice enough, and it's amazingly convenient to shopping, sightseeing, the university, the subway, etc. You can do a lot worse.

Room Tip: Get a suite. Totally worth it.

Dirty smelly rooms, poor internet, poor maintenance, the room service menu has been the same for 5 years and most of it is unavailable. The worst hotel I ever have to stay in. I avoid the restaurant but I think that breakfast may have improved slightly recently. Staff generally cannot speak English and do not look as if they enjoy their work.

Room Tip: Try another hotel

I have stayed here several times for business purposes. The hotel is conveniently located if you have to be at Wuhan University. Rooms are quite big, the bath room is Ok, wifi works. The mosquito problem that I mentioned in the past has been solved apparently. It is a pity that there is no bar. In the lounge you can get something until 22.00hr but that’s all. The new Wuhan Opera House is only steps away and the area is nicely illuminated in the evening.

Room Tip: higher floors have nicer view

The Hong Yi Hotel is fairly new, has a fine central location, with views over the East Lake.
You can take a pleasant stroll around the banks or jog if inclined. The general decor and design of the edifice are passable if not outstanding but the place was very clean and smart. It is owned by the local government and the university, I was told. Such hotels now achieve a creditable standard in the PRC.

The room I was given was on an upper floor, was indeed large and was quite well-furnished, with a very comfortable bed and soft pillows. Although jet-lagged, I had no trouble getting a sound night's sleep. It was very quiet at night, as the sound-proofing was first-class.There was no BBC World News but CNN was available.

The breakfast buffet was very Chinese, with a few Western dishes thrown in. Although advertised from 6am, there was little ready till half an hour later, alas, for early-risers.

The desk-service was friendly and English-speaking staff were at hand.

It was, by and large, better than expected!

The hotel is located outside the centre but near Wuhan university, that was the reason for my stay. The room is of decent size with lake view but the maintenance condition was not good as wall paper was peeling off and I even found a finger-long insect near the closet. The resatuarant was poor in food quality and choice, but was not cheap. There is a walking street 20 mins walk away which offers a lot of choice for food and some shoppiing opportunities. But free wifi in the public areas and good service made this hotel bearable.
