Beautiful beach resort, quiet and clean. The beach is much wider and longer than I've seen in Maui or Honolulu. Food is good but slightly higher than expected. Taxi ride into Sanya is very reasonable and there's a shopping area with local restaurants only 10 minutes away by car.

Room Tip: Higher floors with better view. Trees are blocking the lower floors.

This was my first visit to Hainan Island but am an old fan of Marriott Resorts. This location performed well against the Marriott standards. It was school holidays in China so there were plenty of families however this was not an issue for us as we spent most of the time in the ballroom area on a course.
Pools were excellent , large and clean...and quite well laid out. Food was buffet style in the cafe. Breakfast was average (Its included so like most hotels this tends to be cheaper cuts and ingrediants)..dinner was excllent both in quality and variety. We ate in the Italian restuarnt one night...excellent food, service and wine.
The location of Sanya has developed a resputation for being VERY expensive and I found this to be true. The Marriott charges top level 5 star prices...and I suspect all the hotels on this beach strip charge in a similar fashion.
I will not return, but my Chinese Collegues who had to return to -20 in Beijing will definately be back.

Room Tip: Beach views are btter than mountain views.

We didn't know what to expect coming to Sanya. We stayed at the Marriott for 4 nights and didn't leave the resort. We were 3 adults and 7, 5 and 2 year old kids.

The hotel is very nice and clean. Our rooms were big. Many of them have connecting doors which was very convenient. Breakfast was very good although very busy. You need to relax and take things slowly.

The best part of the hotel is the pool and beach. The 2-tier pool means that there are two different levels, connected by a waterfall, and they are both huge. The pools have many shaded areas so we spent all morning there. Although breakfast was busy - the pool was not, so we felt as if we were alone. In the afternoons we went to the beach. The sea was clean and peaceful and the beach itself is sandy and clean. We built numerous sand castles.

We also really liked the Japanese restaurant. We enjoyed the food so much that we came a second time. We got a family room and the kids could eat and go outside to play.

The kids club is very nice with a large playroom and a huge shallow pool. The only problem is that it is located away from the beach so you have to walk the kids there and stay with them (as opposed to having them spend time there while you relax by the pool which we did in other resorts).

My only complaint was the prices of alcohol. The hotel is expensive, as well as the restaurants and the fact that everything costs extra (pool equipment for the kids, many kids activities, etc.) but the alcohol was ridiculously expensive. $14 for the cheapest white wine. $9 for a 330ml local beer. It shouldn't be that expensive.

To conclude - I still prefer Thailand but we had a great time.

Spent NYE weekend here to get out of the cold on the mainland. Yalong Bay was a great place to be: away from crowds but an easy 20 minute taxi to town. The room, beach, and grounds at the Marriott were very nice/clean. But everything was rather expensive (food, alcohol, rate, activities) and service in the restaurants was pretty slow. It is also very quiet after dinner anywhere near the hotel, so if you plan to do anything after 8pm you need to head to the DaDong beach area.

If I went back to Sanya, I would likely stay in Yalong Bay again. But I might look for a better value resort.

The Marriott did not disappoint! The service was great, most of the service on this island had been sub par to say the least! It is best to visit here speaking either Russian or Chinese! Very little English is spoken on the Island particularly when exploring around! The Marriott is a constant here! Very enjoyable! I would come back and stay here! I like the beach access!
