Great location & helpful staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Feb 2020
Casa Beltran is close to the main Arica sights & it is a good base if you are coming & going from the city on tours to other parts of Northern Chile. The staff are really helpful, the rooms pleasant & the breakfasts superb. The little café by reception is useful for a quick coffee too!

Around the corner from the Gustav Eiffel church and very active plaza. Great place for under $100USD in October, IF you remember to save your PDI receipt given to you at immigration. Otherwise you pay 19% VAT charged non recent visitors and residents. Desk helpful. We found far more to do in and around Arica than we expected. Great breakfast buffet with made to order eggs allowed us to skip or delay lunch. Clean polished wood. Spent 3 nights in the hotel.
Down side: No elevator, though not a problem for us.
Sound from events in the plaza may require earplugs if you retire early, and no one should travel without earplugs.

San beltran is a small hotel ( boutique ? ), but well located
friendly and helpful staff ( however not all speak a foreign language)
rooms are clean, but not all are very spacious.rooms on front side have a balcony,
but one way street is very noisy. Better a room on the backside.
The coffeeshop in the hotel is excellent.

As restaurant nearby we had a good experience in the Barbarella
When in Arica, besides the church and the citadel, the Azapa museum is really
a must - small, but very nice. Prepare some reading before visiting, because all comments are in Spanish ( as french speaker we understand most )

Room tip: see my comments above

This hotel is supposed to be a Boutique Hotel. It has is pro and its cons:

Pros:
- centrally located about a bolck away from the main plaza and the cathedral
- serves an adequate breakfast and also dinner
- excellent and very helpful staff

Cons:
- no elevator but on the other hand the staff is helpful to carry the luggage up the stairs

I booked online by mistake one night in this hotel, when I was going instead to Cuba (the website automatically choose CH and not CU and I didn't noticed!). I was so stressed I couldn't find a place in Cuba that I took the name Beltran from a friend and I booked it without hesitating.
Realising my mistake, I immediately cancelled and wrote to the hotel to explain the situation. I went to Cuba, had no internet for 4 days, and when I got back I saw they were asking me to send my flight ticket that I did. After insisting, they told me I took too long and the 170 dollars were already charged and would not refund it.
This hotel has shown lack of customer support and took the opportunity to keep the money for themselves with a lousy excuse.

Very helpful staff, smallish rooms but ours overlooked courtyard which was quiet. Close to downtown area so very convenient for bars, shops and taxis. We didn't eat in restaurant except for breakfast which was a bit of a disappointment....not great choice and naff coffee so they could improve here. There's also no lift so stairs only for luggage . Would stay here again.
