With so much to do in Siem Reap (apart from the obvious temple-hopping), it is sometimes difficult to pick what you want to do while you are there and what you will have to choose to leave for another time. I have to recommend that a day out with Khmer Ways is something on your list of things to do!
I did a 6 hour trip with Khmer Ways in mid-August and it was literally one of the best things I have done on my 2 month trip through Cambodia and Thailand. You cannot privately hire a motorbike as a tourist in Siem Reap - it is illegal. What KW does is to give you one of their motorbikes and a tour guide on a separate motorbike. My guide for the day, Rong, was superb. He took me through some of the most picturesque and off-the-beaten-track villages that I have seen since leaving on my trip. Half way through the tour we stopped off on the side of the road and Rong produced a little lunch out of the cool-bag he had been keeping in his bike basket. Cool, scented towels and a great snack to sustain me for the next 4 hours went down seriously well, and was eaten in the shade of a rural village family garden! Then it was off to a hill/mountain which has a beautiful temple ruin right at the top. The 600-step climb to the top was no easy going by any means (Rong had to carry my bag for me!), but once up there, the vistas of rural Cambodia were spectacular.
Apart from the actual sight-seeing, Rong's English was very good and his energy and enthusiasm were infectious.
All this for around $25. It doesn't make sense, does it?!
