Very nice hotel with attentive staff. Good breakfast bar.

This hotel does not have an alcohol licence. However, we are not tea-total and still thought this is advantage when we saw the antics of some ignorant expats, elsewhere.

The location is great for Jumeriah and the Palm. Taxis are cheap and plentiful and can be hailed from outside the hotel. The metro is close-by but will be an uncomfortable walk in the hotter months. The downside is that Tecom (where the hotel is located) still has construction work in progress. There was no noise from the construction but Tecom has not been landscaped yet, so is not endearing on the eye. it will be nice when Tecom looks like The Greens (the neighbouring area).

The rooms are very clean and we had a suite which was large with a well-equiped kitchen including washing machine. The only downside was that the toilet was very poor at flushing (we were told this is a problem throughout the hotel and is in the process of being fixed.

The pool area is very clean and sunny. Play areas for the kids and lifeguard on duty was very attentive to ensure safe behaviour.

The internet connection is very expensive but very fast.

We have stayed at this hotel before and it was fine. Just prior to arriving in March we received an email welcoming us back to this hotel. We were looking forward to our stay. When the hotel driver picked us up from the airport he informed us that we had been moved to the sister hotel crystal living which is just an apartment tower with a dip tank on the roof with no restaurant. We were to be collected every day to attend Layia for breakfast. We demanded to be teken direct to the Layia to confront the manager. He gave us a story about a oman who had problems and could not vacate our room. We found alternative accommodation but on leaving the bell boy told us that the hotel do this on a regular basis. We had booked direct with the hotel months in advance and feel this policy let us down. We will not be booking here again -- ever!

My over all stay was good but the selection of the menu was limited and there is no offer for alcoholic beverages. The pool is not heated in the winter. They do not allow delivery food to the hotel room or let the delivery guy even enter the hotel. You have to leave the hotel to retrieve your food which I find as an inconvience. The hotel is otherwise quite nice and staff are very friendly.

Overall I liked this hotel. However, there are a few things lacking which should be advised to others.

First, there is no alcohol served at this hotel - none in the restaurant or via room service. You can not purchase alcohol at the stores in Dubai unless you have a liquor license, so plan on a very dry trip if you stay in this hotel.

Second, I agree with the previous review that this hotel is quite restrictive with the food delivery drivers. I did find it very inconvenient that I had to go outside the hotel to meet the pizza delivery man. Reading the response to one of the previous reviews, I see that the hotel manager is blaming the Dubai government health standards for this issue. I would really like to see him reply to my review and include the section of the Dubai health code which prohibits this type of delivery in a hotel. Many of us on here are seasoned travelers and have seen this type of behavior from other hotels. It is almost always contrived by the hotel to make it more convenient for guests to use the hotel room service.

Third, the balconies need to be cleaned more often. Yes it is a desert climate but my balcony looked like it hadn't been cleaned in several months.

Now some positives. Very comfortable rooms and beds. I really like the location. The housekeeping people and front desk people were very nice.

Dear Mr. Jsttrvlinarnd,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to write to us through TripAdvisor and to apologize to you for any inconvenience caused to you during your stay.

Please note that we allow food ordering and deliveries from outside. However, food deliveries must be collected by the guests in an area designated by the hotel. This practice is for our guests’ safety and security. The room service and all the food and beverage staffs are all certified food handlers where they passed medical examination to be able to be certified. However, they are not allowed to deliver food to the rooms that are not prepared by the hotel's kitchen team for safety practices. Moreso, we are not allowing any deliveryman from outside to send food orders directly to the guest room for security reasons.

On a different note, please be informed that we have followed up your balcony concern to our Housekeeping Department for an immediate action.

Mr. Jsttrvlinarnd, we thank you for your feedback and please note that the positive comments you have mentioned about our hotel are really motivating and inspiring, rest assured that these have been shared with the team.

In the meantime, we look forward to welcome you back at Layia Oak Hotel and Suites!

Sincerely yours,

Stayed in 3 bdrm suite with in-laws and 3 children. Lovely decor and very spacious layout. Beds are incredibly comfortable as stated in other reviews and we slept very well every night. Very friendly staff as well.

Problem with odor - our unit had a noticeable odor of grease/smoke. Also, I agree with "dunno" - cleanliness not up to par. Tubs are stained. Management was very helpful and we declined their offer to change rooms (liked our room's layout much better). We also found the kitchen lacking in basics - like a microwave and colander.

Recommendation to hotel: remove all carpeting and change to laminate, tile or marble flooring to avoid odor retention.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to write to us through TripAdvisor and to apologize to you for any inconvenience caused to you during your stay.

Please note that we have some designated non-smoking floors where our guests may enjoy to stay as to also avoid some unnecessary smell from cigarettes. We therefore suggest that on your next visit please reserve a room from our non smoking floors. Also, please note that we have followed up your concerns on the bathroom and the kitchen.
