We've just eaten at Khaiphaen and I immediately want to go back! The service was superb and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The food is outstanding, very beautifully presented and incredibly flavoursome. The bamboo stuffed with crispy pork from the specials board was divine. We overheard another diner saying how they'd come back especially just to have the banana fritters so ordered some too - so glad we did as they were sensational. An amazing meal plus the added bonus of supporting important work in Luang Prabang.

I'm literally in Khaiphaen now and there are two tables occupied. Why??? The food is sublime just finished off the cinnamon pork belly with ginger pumpkin mash and now having the coconut and pandan pan a cotta with mango. The food is fantastic and so are the prices and you are helping out marginalised youth in the area at the same time who are learning service and cooking skills in the restaurant.

This restaurant does amazing food. We went twice and had different dishes and they were all amazing. They offer tapas style Lao dishes so you can try a couple of different things in one meal. The Luang Prabang sausage and aubergine dip were two of our favorites but every dish we had was good.
However, eating here does not only get you a good meal but you are directly helping locals who are less fortunate than most: Friends International (the organisation that runs the restaurant) has several across Asia (and one in Africa) which train street kids to cook and serve food giving them practical skills to take forward. Go here, then look out for them in other locations, this was the third we have been to and at each one the food is great.

We had visited the sister restaurant, Marum, in Siem Reap and thought we'd try the Luang Prabang location. Boy, we're glad we did!

Similar to Marum, the service was impeccable. The prices are slightly more expensive than your typical tourist restaurant, but it is worth every extra kip.

We ordered the grilled beef salad, the red chicken curry and the chargrilled eggplant dip. The red curry was maybe the best curry we've ever eaten. We also ordered drinks which were creative and delicious.

This place is a must-eat in Luang Prabang!

We have travelled extensively throughout Asia, and are always on the lookout for the wonderful Friends training restaurants that do so much for the young disadvantaged.
Yes, they may be a tad more expensive, but please remember here it is pennies, and that bit extra goes towards the keep and English classes for these young people.
That said, the food was very good, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Their cocktails too, were well crafted.
Another cookbook to our collection.
Well done Khaiphaen. It was our pleasure to support you, and thoroughly enjoyed the LP experience.
