We did not stay but it looked lovely whilst we were there. We came to watch the first film made about Laos called Chang.
It was a fantastic experience and is a good film and I would recommend that people come to see it.

Dear Katty_Jam,

Thank you so much for posting such a nice review towards the movie CHANG , that we show every evening, at 7 PM, in our garden.

It is truly a cinema masterpiece, and an amazing experience to watch it in our outdoor cinema.

Thank you again and best regards!

I actually reviewed this hotel in August after a 1 week stay. My comments were not all complimentary so the review has not appeared on this site. I am, therefore, posting again to see how honest and transparent both the hotel and Trip Advisor are.

The positives: The staff at the hotel were lovely. The location is also great.

The negatives: The villa layout, however, is not that practical. The sofa downstairs in the sitting area is the most uncomfortable sofa I have ever sat on! The hot tub downstairs had scum floating on the surface when I arrived so I did not use it. When you switched it on, it was incredibly noisy and it apparently took 2 to 3 hours to heat. There is no TV in the bedroom which was actually the most comfortable place to sit.

The menu in the restaurant was quite limited and the quality of the breakfast went down after the first two days. All in all, I feel that the hotel is overpriced for the level of comfort that you get.

Dear sakazaan,

Thank you for posting a review regarding your last stay at our property! It is always appreciated to recieve some feedback, as it truly helps us to understand better the needs of our guest, and to improve our services constantly.

Regarding your first review that did not appear on the site, i am afraid we can't know the reason from here: As hotel manager, on this website, we do not have the possibility to approve or diapprove any review before it is published.

We appreciate your comment toward the staff attitude, and i will forward your compliments to them. We also feel sorry that you did not like the Duplex room setup and the jacuzzi, and we will see what we can do in the future to make it better.

All in all, all our team would like to thank you, and let you know that you are more than welcome for another stay at Victoria Xiengthong Palace!

Sincerely,

5 Star hotel, with 5 star treatment. Everything was clean and put together
Breakfast was very nice also!
Downside- no pool! from the pictures we thought there was a pool in the middle of the place. but it was not a pool to swim in- it was just a decorative pond
Another thing is, in the evening maids come in to tidy up the place and prepare the beds for night. we weren't aware of this and when we came back in the evening, our clothes were folded and place was tidied up- we didnt mind but if we knew, we wouldn't have asked for room service as we didnt want our things to be touched
Other than that, very good place to stay

We arrived at this lovely hotel in the evening and a friendly reception team welcomed us. Our suite was more like a villa, never stayed in such a big suite before. Free mini-bar stocked with refreshments. Excellent bathroom amenities. Very few rooms, suite and villa, so its not crowded. Very nicely laid out rooms. Chairs outside the suite with table was our favorite spot every morning to enjoy our coffee. Its few minutes walk to downtown, night market and temples. Breakfast is nice and the open seating area of the dining area is so pleasant in the morning over looking the river. You can rent a bicycle from the hotel. You can walk to river-side and hire the long tailed boat for river cruise or to go to the caves. A small supermarket to the corner of the street. Right in front of the hotel, there is a shop to rent motorbikes. Well maintained hotel and a friendly team at the front desk. There is no swimming pool in the hotel. Overall a wonderful place to stay close to main attractions.

We stayed for five night in the Mekong Suite, which is lovely. The view of the river is obscured by trees slightly, but having a sitting room and verandah was a delight. We mistakenly thought we would be able to see the monks passing from our verandah, but they walk down the road at the front of the hotel. Loved getting different trinkets each night on our bed, and a 9 year old here in Oz was fascinated by them.

I had two massages from two different ladies, and both terrific and highly recommended. Agree, the cost of the laundry was expensive.

We were there in the low season, so while the first breakfast we had the breakfast buffet, which was great but the other mornings, we were given a menu to choose from. We ate dinner at the hotel four nights and we can only praise our wait staff, especially Sai Seng and Bounken who were very keen to teach us Laos. All the restaurant staff tried very hard and they and the spa staff were a stand out.

Unfortunately, we could not say the same for the reception staff. When asking about the time the monks walked past, we were given three different times varying by an hour so we were not sure to be out front at 5.30 or 6.30am.

I appreciate there was often a language difficulty in answering our questions, but we were sadly disappointed when my husband took a heavy tumble down the steps witnessed by two people in reception, and yet neither came down to check on him. He hobbled up around the corner where he was offered assistance by another hotel, and after finding out he had smashed his camera and needing to replace it, then kindly drove us up town and negotiated with a few shops to buy a new camera.

A must do is to go and watch the movie Chang. A really good rollicking movie from the 30s. We watched it twice, once inside and caught the end again sitting in the garden. In fact we bought it to enjoy it again at home, and your donation helps a great cause.

We would certainly stay here again, and we were certainly appreciative of the fact that they delayed revarnishing the floor of the suite next door they were renovating. We had just stayed in Vientiane where they had varnished, so really could not have been so unlucky again. We loved the position on the peninsula.

Room tip: Top floor and suite is worth the extra dollars
