This hotel is in good location next to Mekong and the main street of old town. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were always accommodating and always had a smile. Welcome drink was served on arrival. Front desk attendant took me to the room and walked me through all the amenities. That was a special touch that most hotels don't offer. Large suite with large bathroom and balcony. Dark wood furnishings. Hardwood floors. Ceiling fan. Remote temperature controller. There's a water kettle and tea and coffee, as well as free bottled water. There is also an ipod player including ipod with preloaded music options. Breakfast options weren't abundant, but were enough to give you fuel for the morning. Had a great massage in the spa.

There are many restaurants, shops and temples within a few minutes walk from the hotel.

The problems were that the room was in the same building as the lobby and that you could hear the phone ringing, people talking and everything that went on in the lobby until late into night. In addition, there was constant noise from construction across the street which also meant that the balcony could not be enjoyed. The lighting is not very good in the bathroom. Would recommend brighter lights. I would recommend not staying in the rooms where the lobby is. Still a lovely stay despite the noise.

My family and I stayed here for two nights. We loved the suite they gave us as there were three adults. The bathroom was super spacious, only wish I had more time to use their tub. There is wifi in the rooms and didn't have trouble connecting. The housekeepers did a fine job of keeping the room tidy and even gave us little candy treats for us to enjoy.

The property is wonderful and very well maintained. They did a really cute job of decorating for Christmas. The location is right beside the Mekong River & Wat Xiengthong. My dad easily ran along side the Mekong during his morning jogs. It is very quiet but not too far from the main strip of Old Town Luang Prabang.

The staff was super friendly. Spoke Lao and English. Helped us answer any questions we had and served us drinks once we arrived to the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people. And looking forward on returning back to Victoria!

Local architecture, but confortable. Right by Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang's lovely main temple. Within walking distance to most places in town.

Very good and plentiful breakfast, overlooking the Mekong River.

Very pleasant staff.

Room tip: I stayed at the Lotus Suite. Large room. I loved it.

Overall we had a mixed experience with this hotel. It had some great features but also some real failings, so I probably wouldn't recommend it just because of all the other great options in Luang Prabang.

LOCATION:
The restaurant is right on the Mekong, and the hotel is directly adjacent to one of the big Wats. Pretty convenient to most of the things you'll want to do in Luang Prabang.

SERVICE/STAFF:
Turn-down service was excellent, and they left candies and a nice little trinket each night. The staff were generally very friendly, and were not intensely fussy and overattentive like you get at other nice hotels in Southeast Asia. We had two other pretty bad experiences with the service though. The hot tub in our room never got hot after hours of prep, so we asked the front desk to get someone to check it out. The 'engineer' showed up and said it was working and give it an hour to heat up, but after 90 minutes the water temperature hadn't changed. The front desk said they would send someone back to check again, but nobody ever showed up. Additionally, when we were leaving for the airport, we were delayed because the front desk couldn't get the credit card reader to work. We indicated that we were running late and were worried about missing our flight, and asked the man at the front desk to help us get a taxi. He made a call, and then told us the taxi would arrive in 10 minutes. 15 minutes later, when the taxi still hadn't arrived, he said that it was taking a while because 'the taxi driver lives far away'. Luang Prabang isn't a big place and the old quarter is full of taxis / vans / tuk-tuks - given that he knew we were at risk of missing our flight because of the checkout delays, why would he call the one driver who was actually far away from the hotel? I don't ask for much from hotel staff, but following through on things they say they'll do and recognizing when customer needs are urgent are pretty essential, and they failed on both accounts.

ROOM:
We stayed in one of the Grand Villa Suites. Generally a very nice room, clean and very spacious, but with some problems. The bathroom was fantastic. The balcony off the bedroom was directly adjacent to the next building, so the only view we had was of a neighboring roof. None of the windows/door had screens, which means if you wanted to get any fresh air into the room, you're at pretty high risk of insect bites. As a result the rooms got very stuffy. The ceiling fans and plumbing were also surprisingly noisy. Also, as mentioned, the hot tub didn't really work (it never actually got hot, or even warm).

Dear Alan C,

Thank you for posting your review regarding your last stay at Victoria Xiengthong Palace!

We have well noted your comments, they are very important for us ; it help us to identify the points that we can improve, day by day.

I feel sorry that there was a technical problem with your indoor jacuzzi in your room, we are doing our best to make sure it works all the time. On thatday we had a unfortunate problem with the boiler and that is why we could'nt suits your expectations.
Regarding the taxi you ordered just want to clarify that in Luang Prabang, there is no taxi companies, only tuktuk that drive the tourists in town and to the airport. When our staff call the tuktuk, logically, they have no idea were they are, at the exaxt moment when they call. So our staff didn't called the tuktuk "that lives far away", they just called a tuktuk ( we have phone number of some of them) and it happened that the driver was 15mn from the hotel. Actually, from our side we have a hotel car that we could have arranged for you without delay. Usually, people book car or taxi few hours in advance to make sure they are on time. We apologise if you felt that it was the staff mistake.

All in all, thank you for your review, i see that you have enjoyed your stay in overall. I hope that these diagreements did not affect the positive image you have from our property.
We would love to welcome you back one day for another Victoria experience,

Sincerely,
Best regards,
