Blue Lagoon has indoor and outdoor seating in a secluded courtyard that is well appointed with mellow romantic lighting. The waiters are attentive. The menu offers a wide range of Swiss and Lao cuisine. The food is served promptly, and is artfully presented and delicious. The cocktails are good too. The chef, Somsak, even comes to the table on less busy nights to check that you are enjoying your meal. I live in Luang Prabang and Blue Lagoon is a place we go for romantic nights out and special occasions, because the service and food are always top notch.

Fantastic food and cocktails in courtyard setting. Staff very friendly and helpful and the chef visited all tables to speak to guests which was a nice touch.

Tucked away down an alley on a street opposite the Royal Palace is the Blue Lagoon. The chef is a local who trained in Switzerland and returned. His training and skills are evident. Service is good and included a lovely 'amuse bouche' of warm soup. Main courses were excellent and the lemongrass sorbet was worth the trip to Laos. We've been traveling for almost a month in Vietnam,Cambodia and Laos and this was definitely one of the best meals we've had. An extremely good value for the money.

We really enoyed our lunch there...a little dearer than other places we went to but they go the extra in terms of service, settings and fittings. (The only niggle was a slightly whiffy off-odour near the garden table where we first sat but a quick relocation fixed that.)

At the national palace edge of the night market we turned down a side street to the Blue Lagoon, a restaurant I had read about on trip advisor. Having just arrived in Luang Prabang and although not hungry, we thought we should get something light to eat. While looking at the menu posted on the street out from the alley where the restaurant was located, we were talking and saying we only want something small and a western man standing there heard us and told us there was no problem, we could ask for half portions or just order a starter or two. It turns out he was the owner, a Swiss. We went in and found a very attractive setting with food that was quite good. We ordered two starters, chicken satay and fried egg rolls, and a portion of fried vegetables. We also had a Laotian beer. The food was delicious. While eating we saw the man who advised us to go in circulating around visiting the customers and that is how we learned he was the owner.

The next evening we were determined to return to the Blue Lagoon with an appetite that would allow us to have a real meal there and to enjoy some of the dishes that we had observed passing by the table on our first evening.

My wife and I shared three courses. For a starter we had thin sliced seared tuna with lemongrass and green pepper that was delicious. The tuna melted in your mouth. This was followed by ravioli stuffed with shrimp with a lemongrass sauce and grated parmesan. We had read about it and it more than fulfilled our expectations. Our final course was Blue Lagoon fish filet which was perch from the Mekong River with a mustard sauce and rice which was quite delicate and tasty. The restaurant served a small greeting from the house, on this evening it was a small glass of fish soup which was delicious. Glasses of water were provided and were constantly being refilled during the meal as in a good American restaurant. A basket of warm bread was also served. We also had two large bottles of Laotian beer. As in a good European restaurant the prices on the menu were those seen on the bill total. For our meal, described above, the bill was $38.70. One would never have a meal of this quality for such a price in the US or in Europe.
