be prepared for no easy climb, take the water and make sure that you have sporty footwear. When you reach the top, the feeling is wonderful and the award is amazingly stunning view of the bay and town of Kotor.

Great way to both exercise and take in the amazing scenery unfolding several 100 meters below you. Not for the faint hearted though - it will take some effort!

1 hour from the port to the top of the fort, including numerous stops for photos. 30 minutes down, but your legs will feel like jello afterwards.

A stone fence lines the entire path, but has occasional broken exposed sections. If you fear heights move towards the middle, away from the fence. Several switchbacks (see photos) provide for great viewpoints.

My boyfriend and I embarked on the 1350 step trek up to the fortress and would definitely recommend. Although it was tough, the views at the top were worth it! It took us around 2 hours to get up and back down. I'd recommend taking some water and wearing sturdy shoes.

The walk up to the castle from Montenegro's old town is very steep, and quite challenging at times as the path sometimes gets lost amongst the rocks, but once you reach the top, you'll feel it was worth all the steps you had to take. The view over the bay of Kotor is absolutely stunning, and it's fun to explore the ruins of the castle.
