We visited Tinja on a Saturday night and had an amazing time.
We were met by one of the owners, Karin who runs the bar along with her husband. They are both formerly sommeliers (both having apparently been voted in the top few in the country), who have started this wine bar as a way of helping grow Croatian wine culture.
When we arrived we had no idea what wine to try (having never had Croatian wine before) and so went with the suggestions of Karin. It was fantastic as she suggested different glasses to sample - she was even happy to pour half glasses so we could both taste the same wines. It was amazing to have somebody as knowledgeable as she was serving you - it was at the level you'd expect at a 3 star restaurant!
We were also able to have a platter of delicious local Istrian prsut (which easily rivals the better known jambon of Spain..) as well as home-made olives and bread.
They also have cigars to purchase if you are that way inclined.
At the end of the night we were invited back to a monthly event that they hold on a Sunday night which was a five-course meal (with the food cooked by Karin and wine served by her husband Emil) matched with wines, the theme of this dinner was "Big bottles" - all wines were out of Jeroboams, and were all magnificant. Even though we were the only non-Croatian speakers there, they made a big effort make us feel welcome, and we loved chatting with others on our table.
All in all would highly recommend this bar - the best wine bar that we've been to in Europe (including France which is saying something!!).
