We chose Hotel Kazbek following the many positive reviews we read on TripAdvisor so it seems only right to pen one ourselves. In summary this is a small, five star, well positioned, excellent quality, quiet, boutique hotel and you will not be disappointed if you chose this as your base for a holiday in Dubrovnik.

We made Kazbek our base for a 9 night stay in Croatia for a family of 4 adults. We booked two rooms number 15 and 16. It wasn’t cheap, but we thought we deserved the luxury.

So some details about the hotel itself. From the moment you arrive into the classically impressive courtyard you sense it’s going to be special. The hotel overlooks the Lapad area marina and most days there was a huge cruise ship or two docked outside. The pool area is fabulous. The pool itself is large and warm; perfect for cooling after lying in the warm Croatian sunshine. We found that the pool also has a spa type jacuzzi in one of the corners - look out for the start button. There are plenty of sunbeds, parasols and shaded areas. There is also a sauna in the hotel, but we didn’t try that out.

The bedrooms are a decent size, well equipped and functional. They are traditionally decorated. The air con was a godsend to escape the scorching daytime heat. Above all is that they are very clean; in fact my wife dropped something under the bed and noticed the floor was spotless. Tea/coffee was regularly topped up; we received a fresh bottle of water every day and chocolates every night was a nice touch along with the welcome tray of local biscuits.

The breakfasts are simply wonderful. A plentiful supply of croissants, breads, tea/coffee, fruit, cheeses and whatever hot delights you fancied such as eggs, ham, bacon etc. We indulged ourselves every morning and basically didn’t need any lunch!

The staff in the hotel are another of its assets. All of the staff we encountered from reception, bar, restaurant and pool staff are very helpful and accommodating. The hotel arranged hotel transfers for us from the airport - we did this via email prior to arrival. Their email responses were prompt and informative.

I honestly can’t find a bad word to say about the hotel. You should bear in mind it’s a small boutique hotel with limited number of rooms. Therefore some might find it quiet, but we liked that about the place. Also we didn’t eat an evening meal at the hotel because we found other restaurants outside which offered a greater variety and better value than Kazbek, but I’m sure the hotel food would be excellent. Finally, keep an eye out for the hotel tortoise!

Dear riledthing,

How nice of you to post such a splendid review of your recent stay at the Kazbek! Thank you so very much, both for staying with us and for sharing your experience with the TripAdvisor community.
All of our staff, especially my colleagues from the housekeeping were thrilled to read how nicely you mentioned the spotless cleanliness of each corner. You made them very proud just like the whole team with all your nice words about your stay so thank you again.

We do hope you will stay with us again on your next visit to Dubrovnik.

With kindest regards,

P. Miloglav

PS: the tortoise is still with us; it was found by a member of our team in front of the Kazbek and we thought our garden would be much safer environment :)

We booked this hotel based on the outstanding TA reviews. It was to be a luxury relaxing week in the middle of 8 weeks of extensive travel. The cost of this hotel is fairly hefty but we were confident it would be justified.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case and we came away from our 6 nights here a bit dissapointed that it didn't live ip to what it promised.

Good points: Location - great spot in Lapad. Quietness - benefit of such a small hotel. Pool - beautiful and warm and plenty of lounge chairs. Breakfast - nice choices made fresh. WiFi - excellent coverage all over the hotel. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Housekeeping - super efficient. Mato the waiter at breakfast - really friendly and helpful.

Not so great: Pool bar staff - unfriendly verging on rude, act like they are doing you a favour when serving you, quite often not even manning the bar when he should be instead inside the hotel chatting to other staff. Reception staff - not overly friendly or that helpful. Size of room - for close to $500 nzd per night I was expecting a room that I could relax and spend time in (was hoping for a deck but none of the rooms in this hotel have these) instead it was simply a room with a bed so we simply came here to sleep and had to leave and go elsewhere to hang out and relax. Non-smoking - this entire property is smoke free I did not see this anywhere on the TA website or booking. com site (it is on their website but I didn't look at that prior to arriving) this is quite a major inconvenience for some people.

All in all a beautiful spot in the world just not sure we would stay here again at this property.

Dear Tracey-Lee S,

Thank you indeed for choosing to stay at the Kazbek and for mentioning so many positive points about your stay.

However, we are all so very saddened that you were left disappointed and that your experience was not as you had expected.
It is so unusual that any of our staff is considered unfriendly or even rude knowing that they constantly receive nothing but positive comments. I did talk to each of them; they were very upset and wanted to apologise to you if any of their action made you think that they were unfriendly and rude. It certainly wasn't their intention.

We're sorry that you didn't like your for which we can only apologise. The Kazbek is a different hotel, located in a historical building, protected as zero category cultural monument and unfortunately it wasn't possible to add deck or balcony.

As for the smoking - that's true, the whole Kazbek area is a completely non smoking zone and it is clearly displayed both at TA website right next to other main amenities and on booking.com it says "Non-smoking throughout" under "General". It is also mentioned on booking.com in the text under "An inside look at Boutique Hotel Kazbek" Our webpage can be easily accessible via link on TripAdvisor where our non smoking policy is also clearly marked.

Should you choose to return to the Kazbek we'd be happy to welcome you back.

With kindest regards,

P. Miloglav

Quaint, boutique hotel - such an amazing find.

It's about 2 miles from the Old Town but actually this wasn't an issue for us as it was perfectly peaceful.

We had a lovely time and would like to recognise that the hotel played a major part in our stay.

The staff couldn't be more pleasant. The room was quaint and clean and well looked after.

The bar area was superb. Food beautiful. Pool very well cared for.

I can't wait to go back!

Stunning hotel staffed by professionals, all dedicated to the comfort of its guests.
The hotel's location was perfect as to provide both proximity to the old town as well as a welcome respite from fellow tourists.
The hotel's restaurant proved to be a delightful alternative to city dinning.
Perfectly lovely!

The hotel itself was very pretty and the pool area was lovely. As I went slightly off-peak I don't think the hotel was staffed fully (for example, there was no one to serve me in the bar one evening). At the time of my visit the view from the front of the hotel of the bay was blocked by construction. The room itself was lovely and filled with nice little touches such as a complementary basket of biscuits and water upon arrival.

Dear K F,

Thank you for taking the time to positively review your stay at the Kazbek. We are happy that you had a comfortable stay and that you liked our hotel, pool area and our lovely rooms.
I do apologize if you felt that you were not served properly at our bar. That's correct, we don't have staff at the bar, but being such a small hotel where our restaurant and bar are so close, we cover it with the service from our main restaurant. I am sorry again if you had to wait something longer to be served.
The constitution works at the new marina are now hopefully in the final phase; we heard from their management the opening could be by the end of this summer season, but we believe it would be a soft opening and they would have a real start from next year.

Thank you for being our guest; we hope to have a chance to welcome you back again.

With kindest regards,

P. Miloglav
