The villa is in a small rural village, away from the crowds, which is what we wanted. The apartment was just what we wanted: clean, comfortable and very friendly. The family were super friendly, they offered us food when we arrived really late and exhausted, and an endless supply of figs and their special brandy. Nothing was too much. Lots to do in the area: tennis court in the village; their swimming pool; beautiful walks; paddle boarding on the amazing fresh water lake; access to some of the best beaches, but in the evening we could eat out or eat with the others staying at the villa. All very relaxed and enjoyable.
We stayed in Villa Solo this summer and were treated so well by this kind family. They looked after us providing the kind of attention that is rare. We were given hospitalityfrom the moment we got there right to the end ie after two weeks. From the very start we were made to feel welcome. The place is gorgeous with lovely grounds and a swimming pool.the nearby lakes were gorgeous to walk around and so peaceful. The sea and more tourist resorts were nearby. We were able to meet the other families on the terrace and soon the kids had become friends and we went out together on trips. Malden his wife and Pero their son are a very special family who we will remember and revisit soon.
Staying At Villa Solo is like becoming part of the family. They are very welcoming and every evening are offered to drink their home made Cherry liquor on the balcony along with other guests. They cooked for us all one night and it was really great to mix worth them as well as other guests. Great evening! I would definitely recommend Villa Solo unless you particularly dislike mixing with people on holiday. We borrowed their canoes for the day and the lake is within 5 minutes walk of the Villa. Swimming in the lake was a pleasure and their is a bar on the other side to head for.
You don't have to travel far but Dubrovnik can take 2 hours. If I go again I will stay one night in Dubrovnik before heading north to Villa Solo. Perhaps one more night in Ston. then enjoy what you have close at hand including Kravace waterfalls.
Our holiday overlapped the other reviewers, Frankie and Norman's, holidays and my review echoes theirs!
Our children had a great time and they are still in touch with some of the children they met at Villa Solo.
The hospitality of Mladen and his family was something that I'd not experienced before on holiday and it felt as if we were all part of one big family. We were offered figs and cherry sherry on a daily basis!
Some days the villa was quiet as other families had gone out for the day, and some days it was busier and the guests chatted together.
Ploce is a very small town but there are a couple of bars, restaurants and supermarkets there. It's about a 5-10 minute drive to get to the centre of it though. You can't really walk to any restaurants from the villa but we had 4 meals with the family and other guests in 2 weeks and cooked other nights or went on day trips to other towns and ate there. The kitchens have everything you require though.
Split and Dubrovnik are amazing cities and you can drive to them in about 2 hours. The lakes are a 5 minute walk from the villa and they are stunning. You can borrow bikes from the villa and you can cycle round the lakes in about 45 minutes. The view of the lakes from the villa is amazing.
Gradac is probably the closest beach town and it's about 20-30 minutes away. There are lots of bars, restaurants and shops there and we had some nice meals.
The pool is great and the kids loved late night swimming! The apartment was clean and comfortable and as far as I could tell, every apartment had air conditioning in. Each room had a balcony and the room as the top has a large outside area where you can eat outside and lay on sun loungers.
There's a sandy beach about 15 mins drive from Villa Solo called Usce Neretve but there is limited shade.
Overall, the villa was clean and adequately equipped, there's a shared seating area for if you are feeling sociable, but there's no pressure to socialise, and the family are incredibly welcoming, friendly and generous. The land is vast and there's lots of fruit growing which makes it interesting. The figs are very nice!
The negative points are that if you like to explore a country, you are quite a long drive from towns and the big cities (we explored anyway), the BBQ is shared (I understand why though) and you need to ensure that it you're expected to contribute towards dinner at the villa, this is discussed up front to avoid any awkwardness or unwanted surprises.
We had a great time. Thank you Mladen and family. I'll never forget Tai Chi!

Never felt so at home abroad! Hospitallity with no limits, you can feel the pureness of it which make you feel really welcome. We were spoiled!
Great suroundings, quiteness and lot's of spots to escape in the garden or upstairs in a hammock In the shadow.
Defanitly planned to come back for de-stressing. Thanks to you all for having us!
