We cane upon this first when arriving in Split and very impressive indeed. Careful underfoot as it is very old but very beautiful

This is an amazing place. Built in 3rd century by Romans (actually using Slave / prisoner labour) it’s a magnificent structure. The original walls are still standing.

Amazing how well integrated the palace is with the town itself. You just walk around normally with shops and restaurants around you, but at the same time you are in this almost 2000 year old palace!

It feels very unique!

As the centrepiece and origin of the ancient city, the remains of the Roman palace are stunning and must be seen. I knew very little about Split before my visit, but I will certainly return. For such a precious survivor of seven centuries, the palace is surprisingly accessible, and great for an early morning or late evening visit to avoid the crowds. Popularity seems to have increased since the fantastic vaulted cellars were used a set on Game of Thrones.
