Owner description: Galerija Meštrović houses the masterpieces of Ivan Meštrović carved in marble, bronze and wood. The house was built based on Meštrović's design (1931 - 1939), and was intended to be his family summer residence, working studio and exhibition space. It is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden which, with its bronze sculptures and the view of the sea and of central Dalmatian islands makes a unique example of landscape architecture.

These were just beautiful, evocative -- like Croatia's Rodin. And lovely grounds to walk around. We walked from our hotel - about 30 minutes.

Take a break from the crowds and souvenirs and enjoy a short taxi ride to this amazing museum. Over 50 beautiful sculptures of bronze, wood, marble and granite. Some religious yet many of the emotions of humans filled with love, anger, compassion. Housed in an amazing mansion and gardens with very few crowds. In addition there’s a wonderful chapel full of the wood sculptures a short 15 minute walk away that is included in your admission price. The artist taught at Syracuse University and Notre Dame University in Indiana. His marble Pieta is still housed there and he is buried At Norte Dame. Excellent brochures with pictures in multiple languages service wonderful guides. This is a wonderful break from the kernels of the old city/palace. Not to be missed on a visit to Split.

What a beautiful place! A place for the art lovers, nature lovers, etc. Spent about 2 hours just enjoying the views, the sculptures, and the beautiful space. Must see!

Although this is a 20-25 minute walk from central Split, this museum was well worth it. The museum is beautifully situated with lovely views. We enjoyed soaking in beautiful sculptures from a bench while soaking in the sun before exploring the interior. Around every corner a piece would take my breath away. Very emotive. In particular I was impressed by how his religious subjects drew me in and felt very fresh and different despite them being common subjects. The only thing I had heard about Mestrovic before visiting the museum was that Rodin had thought highly of his work. That was enough to make me want to visit, and I'm so glad I did. Just lovely. The church down the road was a nice short visit as well. I should note that while I loved it, my teenage sister was less excited by it.

The galery/museum is in it self would need little more love and care. But the art is amazing. Mestrovic captures every detail of the human body in his sculptures and shows great emotions at the same time. Visiting this place was a recommendation from a local and I am so glad that I wenr. The ticket was 40 kuna and you also get entrance to the nearby chapel with his more religious work.
