It is fun to be able to say that I slept in the crater of a volcano six years ago yesterday! It took us eleven hours to climb up. We were met with some hot chocolate at the top and then went down to set up camp in the crater for the night. I had on a pair of jeans, t-shirt, sweat shirt, and a heavy coat and still froze to death so DRESS WARM. It took us about 5 1/2 hours to climb down the next day. I was so sore for several days afterwards, but it was totally worth it for a once in a lifetime experience.

We didn't walk up the volcano, but we truly enjoyed waking up to the view of it every morning, and took a myriad of photographs of it. The clouds which surround this volcano are apparently created by steam, which trickles out of this volcano pretty much all the time.

One of the locals told us that this volcano has a heart and soul made-up of the water element, while it's lover Pacaya, the fire volcano rests on the other side of town. The two elements serve to balance each other, just as the sun and the moon are lovers which pass in the night. You've got to love the romance of the local lore!

Volcan De Agua is the Icon of Antigua. You can get to the edge of the volcano by the local "Chicken Bus". The town under the volcano is also a wonderful place to visit. I got to make chocolate and got great coffee under beautiful majesty.
