We visited Toppers for Sunday brunch. We had planned to take the water taxi from town but for some reason, certainly not weather, it was not running that day. There is a free van shuttle from town to the Wauwinet, however. Our server was pleasant and efficient. The house bloody mary was excellent as was The Canella Bellini. The food, however, was just so-so. We ordered salads to start, which were fresh and perfectly dressed. The fried chicken sandwich, which the server recommended, was lackluster. The Waygu beef hamburger was good but not spectacular. The eggs benedict were okay but came with the same salad we had ordered to start. It would have been appreciated had the server mentioned that when we ordered, as it was not listed on the menu. The lobster roll was excellent. The sandwiches were all served with a hearty portion of delicious old bay fries. I have stayed at the Wauwinet and eaten dinner at Toppers and been very impressed in the past. This visit was a disappointment, especially given the cost of brunch for four.

We ventured down the road the first time and turned around before we actually arrived. The second time we ventured past the private gate and discovered a true national gem. Reminded me of a miniature "Homestead" resort. Nevertheless we asked for lunch for the 4 of us on the covered terrace. What a beautiful setting. We had the chowder - what a wonderful and delightful surprise - I actually went back and read the menu again. We asked to split the lobster roll ( which was the best on the island) and they split it and played it for us. Food and service were 5 star. On a chance I asked for a quick tour of the hotel - they were terribly gracious and showed us 2 rooms and the hotel. The fire in the main room's fireplace added to the pure romance of the place. We walked to the waters edge to check out the kayaks and the hobies. As soon as I got back to our lodging I went onto their website to look at next year. Hard to believe we stumbled upon such a national gem

What ever you do, do not judge Toppers at the Wauwinet by the photo shown above. This isn't a burger joint its a Relais & Chateaux restaurant/hotel known for their culinary cuisine and 5 star hotel accommodations. By far the best meal we had on the island in a very elegant setting, unbeatable service with no details spared or over looked. I usually don't post photos, but the photos that other people have uploaded don't do the gastronomic excellence of this restaurant justice. Service was 5 star, tasting menu formula was 5 star, everything but the distance & time it took to get there for the Nantucket boat basin was 5 star lol. If you appreciate good food its well worth the travel time and definitely check it out.

Stopped in for lunch on a beautiful Sept afternoon and decided to eat on the porch at Toppers. Fantastic service by a very personable waitress and the food was delicious. My boyfriend ate had the pate' appetizer and the shrimp and grits entree. As a culinary trained chef declared them both excellent. I had the wagyu burger and it was cooked to perfection. The fries have a secret spice (Old Bay) made them somehow addictive. It was simply a wonderful experience, beginning to end and we will certainly return

With a location as beautiful as the Wauwinet Inn, it's hard to believe that the restaurant could disappoint. From the start, the reservation system fumbled our time and number of guests, which may be overlooked as it was high season. We arrived for dinner with high expectations due to the location, the reputation and the prices. The food was delicious, but the food delays, the officious attitude of the waitstaff following the delays and the virtual neglect of our table contributed to a disappointing evening. We won't be coming back again.
