We went with a guide and enjoyed our visit. Seeing the film explained much about the canal. Staff were extremely nice and friendly. Beautiful view of locks and canal.
Our visit was with our adult daughter, but family with teenagers was the closest choice. Teenagers complain so, we were lucky our daughter appreciated her time here.

They have put up a very interesting presentation on the history of the construction of the canal, with photos and memorabilia.

This visitors center is nice and pulls all the information about the Canal together very well. The video is very informative. An IMAX version is coming soon, but I’m not sure when exactly. The museum portion is also very informative.

After having gone to different sites along the Canal, gone on a tour, and visiting another visitors center, we felt like we could have skipped coming here. We already had seen/heard everything elsewhere, but still got a bit of new info from the video.

There are A LOT of people here. If you have been on a tour of the Canal, I think you can skip coming here. BUT, if you have limited time and want to learn about the Canal, then this is the place to get the most comprehensive and well-presented information.

The Miraflores Visitor Center provides interesting and comprehensive insights about the building of the Panama Canal. The Center also has a couple of observation balconies - and these are the highlight of the center - where you can watch the ships as they pass through the Miraflores Locks. We watched the explanatory film (the English version - I believe it's shown through the day in different languages), which gave a useful overview. We also enjoyed walking through the museum, which provides a history, as well as some interactive exhibits. The highlight, however, as mentioned, was watching the massive ships, as they were lifted from one level to the next, on the start of their trip through the Canal. I suggest going early for two reasons: the first is to actually see the ships - apparently there is little traffic to see after the morning rush, and the second is to beat the cruise ship crowds, which, on our visit, poured in around 9:15, and turned the viewing balconies into a crush of human bodies.

In order to get a multi mega-ton ship from the pacific to the Atlantic, you have to raise this ship 28meters (~90ft) above sea level.

Enter engineering solution ‘locks’ 3 of them, 2 engineering teams French & American, ~25000 people perished and millions of man hours to build the canal.

Miraflores is the first lock when entering from the pacific.

BIG PRO TIP: If you want to see the lock in use with ships get there early bet. 8:30-10am or bet. 2-4pm or you will watch it in movie theater

All this was notice shrugged off as un-impressed by my teenagers in between heavy texting and Snapchat.
