Picturesque lake nestled between some large peaks. Very quiet during the week but can be busy on the weekends. There is a small building where you can sometimes order lunch and get cold sodas and beers. A great hike up onto the mountain next to the lake where the views are incredible and you have birds of prey gliding in the wind around your head...Well worth a visit.

Thank William H

In my opinion the long way to the laguna (about 25 km from the highway through a mountain road) isn't worth of what you will see. The laguna is just a very small lake between the mountains, you can be dissapointed.

The entrance fee is 1 USD/person

first of all: the review by ricardo d on Dec 2nd 2014 is pot on regarding the hiking. We did hike as well and had some great views.
The lake itself is really nice and does have a small 'restaurant' for some food and drinks. It is a very relaxing spot, where you can enjoy the sun, swim or a nice walk around the lake.
As it is surrounded by mountains you have have beautiful views.

So, as always this is more a review of the cerro picacho for trail heads and hikers.
So you start at the lagoon, down the path the cars came in, and its the first entrance to the left.
its not difficult really, its just has a lot of uphill, but nothing you can't do if you go slow and steady.
to get to the first level top its about an hour. I would say 80% of the trail is with shade. the rest its open so please do put on some sun block,
The later part if you are up to it is a little more complicated and you will need to bring ropes and have experience climbing a bit so i will leave this part out.
any who, bring water or a sports drink, hydrate well before going up, and also bring some snacks (take the trash with you, even if it isn't yours)
if you have a walking stick or trekking pole, bring it...
when you are done, you can go ahead and head back down the same path,
almost down, you can go into another cerro,
this one is called cerro sapo. starts out in an open field, with extremely nice views.
and it is also extremely short, about 30 min, but please do be carefull, if you want to head to the top as there are very steep, ledges.
thats it,
i will leave pictures and my wikiloc track of picacho that starts at the beggining of cerro sapo.
(i didnt log that one as it was too easy)

wikiloc (i use the app on my phone, easiest thing to use that i know)
