This statue has pride of place within Republic square, the steps of the statue is a popular meeting place, for locals and tour groups. The prince reigned from 1839 to 1842 and 1860 to 1868.

It is said that regarding equestrian statues you can tell how the rider died by the horse:
one: a-rearing horse with both legs in the air, the rider died in battle
Two: one front leg in the air, the ride died from wounds sustained in battle
Three: a standing horse, the rider died of natural causes or not in battle.

Prince Mihailo was assassinated in 1868, so much for that theory.

This magnificent equestrian statue of Prince Mihailo is in the center of Republic Square, in front of the main museum in Belgrade. The base of the statue is made of stone, with four saets of stairs climbig to an octagonal base with bas-reliefs. On top, there is a bronze base which, in turn, supports the actual statue. the bronze base is also covered allaround with bas reliefs. This is a popular meeting place in Belgrade and easy to reach by public transportation. it is also a block from one of the major pedestrian shopping malls in the city.
