This 19th century church in the heart of Bucharest is one of the finest pieces of Christian Orthodox architecture. Yet, what is differentiating this church from others is the interior decorations, with the marvelous paitings by the Romanian master Gheorghe Tattarescu in Renaissance style, superb stained glasses and one of a kind iconostasis.

This is the biggest Orthodox church in Bucharest, and maybe the most beautiful one, inside and outside.

Originally built in 1860, this church was several times reconstructed. It has central tower and two towers in front, also many art works inside such as icons and mosaics. Today it's the biggest Roman Orthodox church in Bucharest.

the biggest Orthodox church in Bucharest, and maybe the most beautiful one
due to that, you could see there nice weddings
it suffered a lot after earthquakes, the subway construction, etc, so so it was pretty close to be demolished
fortunately, it has been saved, together with its 250 years of history

While walking in the city I saw this beautiful church and decided to go in. It was built by a prince of Wallachia and its style is beautiful. Hundreds of paintings decorates the interior. It was partially destroyed in world war II and renovated in the 90's. It holds the hand of St Spyridon.

Built between 1852 -1856 and consecrated on November 8th 1860, by Scarlat Ghica, the son of Grigore Ghica, Prince of Wallachia, Saint Spiridon the New Church is the klargest orthodox church of Bucharest. The church was built in an eclectic style, on the place of an old princely monastery, having a special acrchitectural plan, with a central Byzantine dome and two front Gothic towers changed later, after several reastaurations in Byzantine style. Severely effected during World War 2 but mostly by the earthquake of 1977, this beautiful orthodox church was marvelleously restaured and reconsecrated in 1990.

I have been to this church several times. It is very well taking care of both outside and inside. The paintings inside the church are really pretty and the the entire church is fairly bright. Ideal if you want to take pictures.
