This is the original 5 star hotel in the Region and it still has something special. Rooms are reasonably priced but don't include breakfast which is extortionate. Suggest you walk 5 minutes to the railway station and buy fresh burek and a yoghurt drink for €2!!

We had a twin room which was cramped and with an awful internal view. But I do know there are bigger rooms with lovely views over the square and train station.

Gym is small but functional and with a sauna and other wellness options. The brasserie has tasty (but yep, pricey) options.

Good place to stay if not to eat

Stayed as a family of five as both a revisit to somewhere we'd been as a couple pre-kids and because we got a good deal in the summer.

Rooms excellent and just about enough room for an extra bed in the twin room to fit all three children. We arrived early and the rooms were ready so could settle in.

Got a decent deal on breakfast (which is punishingly expensive otherwise) which was fine - both the buffet and menu items - without there being anything special. Quality of cooked items variable - my first morning of bacon and poached eggs was perfect, the second of the same item came with almost solid eggs and the type of over crisped and stuck together bacon you get in a standard breakfast warmer - final morning cheese and herb omelette back to good. Almost certainly about who you get in the kitchen that morning.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did grab a coffee and cake on our final day. Quality good - but pricey - timing all off as our coffee and drinks arrived 20 minutes before the cake and dessert.

This slight failure to manage service was clear throughout the stay and there doesn't seem to be the management oversight to really aim high in this area. Each individual is nice, friendly and seems to want to do their best - I just don't think they've been told the standard a lot of their guests will expect.

This was clear from our arrival - the taxi from the airport was met outside the hotel. The taxi driver got the bags out and no one made an effort to take our bags, the door man directed me to reception where we waited, checked-in and then found our way to the lift and rooms. I can't think of a single hotel of this level where I've not been offered significantly more help.

Similarly the small things that take service up a level were missing: I run every morning and in numerous hotels am provided water/towel etc on my return, no one even noticed me return hire; no offer of drink on arrival etc

The hotel's nice, for a good price I'd stay again - but then I'd need a decent discount to not look elsewhere.

A wonderful experience that conjours up days of old!
The Hotel is very luxurious and well located to walking around the city sights.
We also did the "Old Zagreb Tour" in the replica Model T electric car which was based at the hotel and is great fun and very informative.

This is a beautiful hotel with an interesting history. The lobby really reminds you that you are staying at a hotel that was a stop on the Orient Express. Our room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and seating area. The breakfast was very good. It's in a lovely area surrounded by parks and walking distance to all the major attractions.

My only complaint was that the service at the bar was at times a bit lacking when we were sitting outside. However, the other staff in the hotel and at Zinfandel's Restaurant were incredibly professional and attentive.

Zagreb is an amazing city and I would not hesitate to stay here again!

What a great step back in time to an elegant era! Great lobby with bar & restaurant. Really enjoyed breakfast on the patio-like being at a resort right in the middle of the city of Zagreb!
Our room was small but comfortable. Walking distance to the old town & restaurants. Train station a block away. Price was really reasonable including breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel-no better classic place in Zagreb!
