This hotel lacked charm, but was an ok place to rest for the day before a late night flight. The cost of shuttles was prohibitive, but the driver was a great source of information. The rooms were clean, but sterile. It was a relatively short walk from the ferry terminal. Watch out for "free transportation" messages. This is only from the airport NOT to the airport: $10 per person.

Hotel had older furniture, with stains on the couch, the only 1 lamp was on the night stand, dimly lit hallways....pretty scary! The food at their restaurant was bad and the most limited of any restaurant I ever visited (no meat of any kind on the menu). Location was in an industrial area, I would never stay there again!!!

We stayed 4 times, on some occasions just overnight, once for 4 nights. It's been perfect each time. The location is great because downtown and the ferry to Moorea are in easy walking distance. Those who're under the impression that the neighborhood is industrial are mislead by their inability to accept that some cultures have styles that don't quite match their own. This deficiency causes disappointment and complaints. Pitty. The same is true for the Sarah Nui. The rooms are spacious and really clean but some have imperfections. Funnily, each room is different and will in its own way either fit or not fit. The nice thing is, if a room is no fit, simply ask the reception, kind-and politely, if they could give you another room. They will and this may suit your needs, even though it, too, will not be perfect for everybody. (Don't even try to moan or look down on staff. The result will be way less pleasing and rightly so.). We love the rooms on the 4th floor - they have absolutely spectacular views. But again, they may or may not suit everybody. Staff, who are available 24/7 and are speaking English and French, are the kindest and perfectly lovely people as long as you treat them with the respect they and everybody else deserve. They will provide competent advise on restaurants etc, arrange free transfers to the hotel while you pay for the way out, which isn't much really, plus we never ran into a taxi driver who cheated and more importantly, taxis always came on time, no matter what time of day it was. Pricewise, the Sarah Nui is very reasonable for what you get.
All and all, if you want to define authentic, check the Sarah Nui.
I would recommend to stay at the Manava Suite Resort or the Intercontinental to those that are hyperpicky or may suffer from attention, consideration or tolerance deficit (disorder). This would spare them and everybody trouble that nobody needs.
We love Papeete incl. the Sarah Nui and will be back, no doubt about it.

First time traveling to Tahiti in February, cyclone in Fiji should have warned us what monsoon rains are like. We traveled to Bora Bora and Huahine and used this hotel as a base in Papeete for arriving and departing.

Airport Pickup: I understand somethings are beyond anyone's control. 1st arrival/check-in Air France lost our luggage so we missed our free ride from the airport. 2nd arrival back from Bora Bora weather delayed our flight and again missed our ride. It would have been nice to be reimbursed the $40 total.

Location: its a fairly close ride from the airport and is a larger hotel than first imagined. The walk to downtown is only a few blocks and easily done.

Checkin: we have traveled extensively and I do understand early check-in. We got into early morning on a Sunday so when people tell you Tahiti closes down on sundays they are not exaggerating. Figured on just walking the downtown area shopping and eating. Market was pretty much closed and most everything else. Started drinking at 9am while watching the monsoon rain in our 2nd day of wearing the same clothes (thanks Air France). We ended up sitting back in the hotel lobby for over an hour to check-in at 1pm. Sorry the hotel did not look full and they saw us sitting there waiting for a room.

Room: 1st check-in room was very spacious, small balcony, bathroom also big and nicely done. Bed was fabulous.
2nd check-in room smaller, no balcony, bed smaller and not as comfortable, weird. Only french speaking TV channels.

WiFi: works good in the room as long as its not bad weather. we actually watched the Superbowl on Youtube, who knew.

Restaurant: 1st check-in we did the breakfast and it was fine. I just don't understand why its costs as much as it does. Not worth the cost.

Overall I would stay here again, price is right, location works. We found a great brewery restaurant downtown and hit HH. Food was great and reasonably priced (3 Braisseres). I imagined getting fresh pastry and breads in Tahiti because of the french influence. I guess you have to find these bakery's early, timing was our problem this trip.

We booked a room here for the night following cruise disembarkation in the morning, never intending to stay beyond the early evening when we were off to the airport, but we needed somewhere to chill out in the meantime. The location is poor, largely surrounded by what seemed like small industrial units and shops of no possible interest to most tourists. We were able to wait in the small lobby (no air con but just about bearable at this time of year) until our room was ready, and our bags were helpfully (and we felt safely) stored in a back room, and the receptionist was able to make one kind of coffee from a machine behind the counter. The room was very basic with no plug for the bathroom basin. We went to the "restaurant" for lunch but the menu was incredibly basic and appeared to be the same for lunch and dinner - a few salads, egg and chips, slices of pizza etc. We chose toasted panini which were huge but uninteresting but we didn't order coffee as there were tea/coffee facilities in the room. However we then discovered that there was no milk, not even sachets. I found a chambermaid on our floor but she said I would have to ask reception. They said somewhat shamefacedly that the lady who ran the restaurant had now gone home and they had no access to get us any milk!
While for the price we paid we weren't expecting anything fancy, we were happy when the time came to leave. On the plus side, the wifi was excellent, and the lady in the lobby who was selling tours, airport transfers etc was very helpful (although we assume not actually a member of the hotel's own staff), and was happy to change the time of our transfer after we had booked it, and the transfer duly turned up on the dot, in fact a little early.
