The most incredible morning with Lady Gaga & Sponge Bob on the bus, then on the boat with the awesome Capt. Freddy, on only his "second day on the job". These guys have such a passion, respect and deep attachment to the country and the people of the villages; it adds a deep authenticity to what they share and you really have to hear it for yourself to appreciate. Then there's Freddy giving it to the boat, it's an absolute thrill ride.
But that's the least of it. The people in the village were just amazing. At first glance, they appear to have so little, at least in the way that we'd normally look. Then they put on the most incredible lunch, dancing and fun afternoon. Pretty soon you realise just how rich they really are, and it is a very humbling experience.
Our three kids, 7,5 & 2 had a blast and the day was in no way too much for them. Our 2yr old boy hasn't stopped talking about his new best buddy Capt Freddy. Anyone, of any age will love this experience. Yes, a little commonsense doesn't hurt. It's a tropical island, so if you're not used to humidity, take extra water. You're out of town, so decent shoes wouldn't hurt (that said, we all wore thongs/pluggers with no issues). All you really need is a camera, sunscreen and a sense of adventure. A gift for the village is a good touch too, just something simple like school supplies for the kids. They'll pick you up and drop you off again, you don't need to do anything but put your name down.
A must do, easily our best memories of Fiji, not that we have any bad ones. We're already planning our second time in Fiji and this is top of our list to do again.
