Owner description: One of Montevideo's most impressive landmarks is this neo-classical, three-story building, constructed in the early 1900s, and housing significant works of art inside.

very impressive building, worth the detour.
However you have to be open to the morbid charme of Montevideo: everything is falling apart. Obviously there is no money around to restaurate the ancient buildings and walking ways. Nevertheless if you see the beauty behind, Montevideo is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world

Free tours in English are offered, and our guide was wonderful-- full of information and good humor. We got to see the chambers of both houses -- the house of representatives while it was in session, debating legislation about domestic violence. Uruguay has a fascinating history, and this is a good place to learn some of it.

14:30 – Guided tour in Spanish

No need to pre-book - just turn up 15 minutes early and pay USD3.

What an impressive building - both inside and out. The tour I did turned out to be the only one of the day and was given in Spanish and English. It was very well done: we sat in the gallery of the impressive Chamber of Representatives while hearing about it, had a wonderful view from above of the fabulous Main Hall, and went in the beautiful Library. The tour lasted 1 1/2 hours.

I went there by taxi from the cruise dock. Fixed fare of USD10. I got a local bus back to the Old Town, where I went to see the fascinating Gaucho Museum.

An absolute must-see in Montevideo! Definitely take the tour as it is incredible building to see inside! Far more beautiful than the US capitol building, hands down! Guide (Mario) gave a great tour in English! Don't miss this architectural treasure!

Classy, italian marble european design, it is indispensable to visit and view and hear the story of Democracy and freedom in Uruguay. Nice building also. Allow one hour and a half and better to sesrch for inside tours.
