Uru Gastropub is a great new restaurant in Urubamba, conveniently located right next to the plaza de armas (main plaza). The chefs, an American husband and Peruvian wife, team are super nice and make amazing dishes. I have yet to try anything I don't like!

Their customer service is excellent which is very hard to find in this part of the world.

My favorite dishes have been the homemade pasta with bolognese sauce, the vegetarian pesto pasta, the lightly fried zuchini, anticuchos and their soups are also great. I don't eat pork but I made an exception to try their pork ribs as the chef offered it as a sample. It was soooooo good and this is coming from someone who doesn't eat pork.

I would recommend their place for a large party as they have a lot of seating available. They also have a beautiful garden where you can sit outside.

I would recommend this as a must try restaurant when in Urubamba.

My family and I are living in Urubamba for a few months and have been dining out semi-frequently. There are few fairly good restaurants in the town but in my opinion none as good as Uru Gastropub. I had been given their card at the local mercado (open market) and the woman said please come give it a try. We were staying at a hotel that night so that I could get caught up on some work in the states and Uru was just a few blocks from our hotel. We arrived about an hour before closing, they close at 8:00pm as the owners, a husband and wife team, have 2 small children. The kids were there on our first visit and were quite adorable. You enter Uru and you feel like you've discovered a secret garden. The property while covered feels like an open air cafe. A beautiful mural, painted be an artist friend of theirs dominates one wall. There are few smaller tables, a round that seats 6-8, and a large community table. Behind the dining room is the lovely garden courtyard. The only thing seeming out of place is a small smoker (turns out this is one of the best features).

We were warmly greeted by Fi and she explained the menu, written on a large chalkboard in the entry. Uru changes and updates the menu daily offering a variety of choices touching on elements of Chef Richard’s American roots in BBQ and smoked meats to his new home’s cuisine. On the last day I was there Chef was learning the art of the Peruvian tamales Criollos from his mom-in-law to add as a side to his barbecue entrees. I’ll have to admit I am crushing out on these folks and their restaurant. We have been there 4 times in the first 2 weeks of their grand opening.

The pork ribs I had were some of the best I have ever eaten. Smoked to perfection, tender and seasoned extremely well. On the day of this review I had a pork belly BLT with avocado, a sandwich I’ll never forget. The soups and salads have been excellent as well. My wife a vegetarian, has always been more than pleased with the dishes she ordered.

They have big plans for the space and additional offerings including large party bookings and an urban picnic shop. If they do everything as well as I have experienced I have no doubt Uru will easily become one of the top ten restaurants in the Sacred Valley.
