I was a little uncertain if this was the hotel for us due to it's close proximity to the train station but we loved it. We had a room that overlooked the mountains & ruins, it was quiet. Even if you were in the front rooms the trains don't run after 9pm.
The staff were helpful & friendly. It was about a 10 minute walk to the main part of town, this wasn't an issue for us.
The Sacred Valley is a must on your trip to Machu Picchu, we loved it all

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel of the train line, we had room 16

We are so glad that we included Ollantaytambo on our trip to Machu Pichu. Don't miss a visit to the Sacred Valley as a one or two day stop from Cusco to a Macchu Picu visit. Ollantaytambo is a great little town and El Abergue is a great gem of a hotel. Located right by the train station might make you worry but once inside door you find an amazing garden setting with rooms with great garden and mountain views. On arrival we met Joachim the owner who gave us the history of th hotel started by his mother. He is now expanding and has started an organic farm on five hetars adjacent the hotel that supplies fresh produce for his wonderful restaurant. Don't miss a tour of the garden which will help you appreciate the great meals served in the hotel restaurant. We had three dinners there each with a Peruvian harpist with romantic candlelight. The kitchen is open to the dining room so you can watch the cooks prepare excellent dishes.
El Abergue is a real gem. We loved the garden and enjoyed a hot relaxing sauna one evening which was a great treat! Don't miss this this one.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel and enjoyed our experience. The hotel had a lot of charm and character. Our room had some fantastic views of the various peaks that surround the ruins. Rooms were a good size with plenty of natural light. Conveniently situated next to the rail station (ideal if you want to stay in the sacred valley before making your way upto Machu Picchu). Surprisingly I didn't hear too much noise from the station. We had both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. Food was very good and fresh.
Overall the staff was helpful, however i felt misinformed when looking for information on visiting various sites in the sacred valley. i would expect front desk to be well versed on what i would consider to be common questions from tourists. As long as you've done your own research you will really enjoy your stay at the hotel.

A wonderful place to stay when visiting the Sacred Valley (which you really should do in addition to Machu Picchu).

Room was rustic but charmingly so. Updated bath and shower. Tastefully decorated in local style. Beautiful grounds. Delicious breakfast in onsite restaurant. Recommend having dinner there as well. Adjacent cafe is a fun place to enjoy coffee or pisco sours while watching the train station activity. Friendly staff.

The location is very convenient but a bit noisy due to train traffic. Didnt bother me but might be an issue for those who are more sensitive to noise.

This is excellent place to stay in Sacred Valley before and after visit of Machu Picchu. Room was clean and comfortable.Staff is very helpful. If you need transportation from Cuzco or tickets for MP they arrange that too. Eduardo, 22 years old driver took me to all locations of Sacred Valley for reasonable price. Very professional and always smiling attitude. Thank you Virginia. Food in the restaurant was amazing. It was a really enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Room number 15 was perfect.
