Well, after having heard much of Malabar. We decided to experience it ourselves. We came with high expectations and on the whole we were not totally disappointed. Yet not completely amazed.
The food was incredible, right from the tasters , Jamon Paiche, Seafood Empanadas, all the way through, sublime flavours.
The one thing that let it down was the service. On a quiet Monday night, restaurant only half full, we found the multitude of staff had to called, or catch as they walked passed. Its disappointing to be waiting for a drink or water and to look around and see 5 staff chatting and laughing in the bar area.
The wine list is very ordinary. perhaps 20 wines in total. Whilst I understand you don't need 25 pages, what was there was very limited. 8 red wines, only 3 varieties? Come on!
I'd go back for the food again and again! The front of house needs serious work though.

Simple setting and decor . But what amazing food and great service . We had the Ceviche , a very big plate of chunky pieces of fresh fish in tiger milk ( ceviche sauce). This appetizer dish was bigger than the main course . We had the crunching rice with seafood very Nice . Also had the Pigeon in pasta that was mouth watering amazing . We couldn’t believe how good that was , so we had to order another one just to make sure.

The staff were very friendly and helped with off the menu order for our 9 year old

If you come to Lima and don’t eat here , then have missed a gastro opportunity
5 stars

I went to Malabar with 15 friends and they dealt with our large group with impeccable, attentive service and a tasting menu prepared just for us. We had choices of 3 unusual and exquisite starters, entrees and desserts. I still miss the pigeon with pasta! Wish I could have it once a week. The staff even managed to wrangle multiple taxis for us at the end of the evening. The only criticism I have is that it was somewhat noisy. Great place—highly recommend.

The wood-fired grilled octopus was absolutely perfect. If I could order just three courses of this, I think I would have.

We had the jamón de paiche (fish ham), navajas chorillanas (razor clams in tomato soup Chorillian style) and tallarin con pichones (pasta and pigeon breast). All three had delicate flavors embodying careful selection of the ingredients and thoughtful cooking. The presentation was really great. We had cheese and lemon tart served with basil ice cream for dessert and finally Japanese-style slow-drip hot coffee.
