We visited Rafael in October 2015. We arrived with no reservation but they managed to seat us at the bar. We had a very nice experience, trying the steak and the suckling pig from the mains, and the scallops from the starter menu. The staff was very helpful and the atmosphere nice. Recommended for a romantic dinner, although the price is on the high end of what you get in Lima.

Rafael used to be my preferred restaurant in Lima, but now has been clearly overtaken by more imaginative places, like IK. The food is still very good, but a bit too rich and the service less attentive than used to be the case. Also, the tables are very close, there is no privacy in conversation.

We couldn't get a table as it was fully booked but just turned up and they managed to fit us in. The service and food from the minute we walked ion was fantastic. This is as close as you will get to Michelin starred restaurant in South America and Lima certainly is the foodie capital of SA. The atmosphere was great and the place was very busy and full of customers who obviously had money but the price was not too high and well worth the cost. Every course we had was fantastic, well thought out and constructed and off course exquisite tasting. I also bought the cook book for this restaurant at the airport.

After seeing the great reviews for Raphael's on both TripAdvisor and in the Lonely Planet we were eager to sample their delights. We called in on the day at lunchtime to reserve for the evening and they were fully booked but re-organised their seating plan to squeeze the 5 of us in on an extra table by the bar. A good start for what was to be a fantastic evening and a great example of how accommodating and helpful the multi-lingual staff are.
Upon arrival we were shown to our table, which despite being an extra in the corner wasn't cramped at all and gave a good view of most of the establishment. The decor was original and interesting, with artwork adorning the walls and the lighting creating a lovely ambience.
To drink we chose a fantastic Peruvian bottle of red and an Argentinian white from the rather extensive wine list. The waiting staff were attentive and refilled our glasses at regular intervals.
We selected a number of the starters, the highlights being the scallops and the lucuma/fois gras foam with ceviche. All were prepared and presented with care and class.
Again we had a variety of main dishes, the jus/gravy that came with the rib eye steak absolutely blowing us away. Each serving was cooked to perfection and we couldn't fault a single thing.
The desserts rounded off a fantastic evening and I would recommend anyone passing through Lima to try this wonderful establishment.

Peruvian Modern Fusion.... That's a mouthful but this is one seriously good restaurant. The food is Peruvian but with a few modern updates. Take the old standby lomoto saltado. Rafael's take deconstructs it and sauces it with Pisco de jora. My fish came sauced with a version of the famous chupe de camarones soup/stew. Both outstanding. Nice wine list but we settled on Pisco sours. didn't have dessert (too full as we had delicious octopus and broiled scallops to share as starters. service a bit spotty or I would have considered five stars.
